Oscar Lee Cowan Sr. was born July 19, 1928, to Ceola and Milton Cowan in Kensett, AR. He was the eighth of ten children and the sole survivor at the time of his death.
Oscar’s childhood was filled with the joy and love of a large family. He attended Arnold Chapel C.M.E. Church with his family. He united with Fountain of Hope African Methodist Episcopal Church in October, 2019. He enjoyed worshipping and reading the word
After graduating high school Oscar moved to Hot Springs, AR. He met and married the love of his life, Geneva Hampton in 1946. They relocated to Denver, CO in 1948. Two children were born to this union. He was the backbone and loved his family, always putting their needs before his own. Geneva passed away in 1991.
Oscar worked day and night to support his family. He was a butcher at Swift Packing House for over 20 years and the co-owner of Walton Bros Service Station. Oscar took a position at Litvak Packing Company after Swift moved to another state. He worked at Litvak for 20 years and received several awards for his service rendered. He retired in 1990.
Oscar had a contagious smile and sweet personality that drew people from all walks of life. He did whatever he could to help someone. He will be missed by his entire family and everyone who knew him.
Oscar departed this life on Saturday, May 21, 2022. Those left to cherish his memory include: his children Oscar Cowan Jr and Joyce Schuler both of Las Vegas, NV; grandchildren Tyleisa (Tarez) Jackson, Aurora, CO and Vernon Cowan, Los Angeles, CA; great granddaughter Zeniya Jackson of Aurora, CO; sister in-law Bobbie Williams, Saginaw, MI; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
