Ora Johnson

March 7, 1940 — December 28, 2014

Ora D. Johnson was born March 7, 1940, in Macon County, Mississippi to her parents, Premiss Gillespie and Rosie Avery Gillespie. She was the second child born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her sister, Lugenia. As a child, she excelled academically and she loved to read. She received her formal education in Danville, Illinois, where she graduated from the Danville High School. She furthered her education by attending the local community college in Indianapolis, Indiana. In 1955, Ora united in holy matrimony to Dallas Cesear Jones. The couple first met when they both lived in Danville, Illinois. Too this union, two beautiful children, Kandi and Graylan were born. They remember her as a mother whose pride and joy was the care and nurture of her family. They shared many happy and precious moments together. In 1961, she wed Harry Johnson. They first met when he was stationed at Chanute Air Force Base. There were no children born to the union. Ora was later blessed with three grandchildren, Dairone, Damien and Derrick. They lovingly called her "Grana or Na Na" and fondly remember her as loving, kind, and how much, she enjoyed working in her garden. They also remember her attending birthday parties and spoiling them during the Christmas holidays. By profession, Ora worked as Purchasing Agent for the Government. She was hardworking, dedicated and performed her duties with a spirit of excellence. Her former coworkers and friends Mary, Shirley and Geraldine fondly remember her working well with others and how much of joy it was to work together. A crowning moment for Ora was to receive an award from President Bill Clinton for her excellence in duty while working for the United States Government. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Ora was a member of the Potters House of Denver. She truly enjoyed the fellowship shared with her church family and the wisdom and knowledge she gained as she studied the Bible in spirit and in truth. Ora was a fun-loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she loved listening to gospel music, working in her garden and spending quality time with her friends, Carol, Gerdine and Edwena. She also loved cooking and sharing with family and friends during holiday gatherings and every Sunday before her health began to decline. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this one of a kind woman. To know Ora was to love her. Ora D. Johnson departed this life on December 28, 2014, in Littleton, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include a daughter, Kandi Jones of Littleton, CO and Graylan A.
