Ollie Russell Jr. was born on January 10, 1939, in Meridan, Mississippi, to Katherine Shannon and Oliver Russell. Ollie received his formal education in the East St. Louis, Illinois. He attended and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1957. At 21 years of age, he enlisted into the Marines, which did not please his mother at all. After leaving the Marine Corp. He resided in Los Angeles, California. Ollie worked as a machinist for the International Paper Company until the business closed. He later relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he was introduced to his wife Acquanetta Russell, who absolutely adored him.

Ollie was very soft spoken, easy going man who loved his family and friends. He enjoyed watching cowboy movies, fishing and sitting at home listening to music. He was a kind gentle man who would do anything for anyone.

On May 1, 2021, Ollie Russell Jr., passed away peacefully at home. Ollie was preceded in death by his father: Oliver Russell, mother: Katherine Holmes, and brother: Jerry Dewitt Brooks.

Ollie leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted Loving wife: Acquanetta Russell, daughter: Candace A. Vick of Los Angeles, CA, sons: Kevin (Linda) Russell of East St. Louis, IL, and Treddis (Mary Ellen) Russell of Denver, CO, three sisters: Garnetta (Larry) Williams, Betty Sanders of East St. Louis. Illinois, Jessie Miller of Los Angeles, CA, one brother Darnell Russell of East St. Louis, Illinois, his loyal and devoted friend Robert Rodgers of Los Angeles, CA, many friends, nieces, nephews and cousins.
