Naomi was born on August 27, 1933, in Homer, Louisiana, to her parents, Solon Sidney "Buddy Joe" Shelton and Laura Elizabeth Rabb-Springs. She was the third child born in the family of 14 siblings. Naomi and her siblings were raised in the country and being the oldest girl, she had to learn how to cook, clean and help raise her younger siblings. That training was significant with the rearing of her own 11 children, on a small farm in Jones, Louisiana.
According to Naomi, farm life was hard work: picking cotton, growing vegetables, and tending to the farm animals. No indoor plumbing, so the water had to be drawn from the outside well. She would sometimes make her children's clothes by sewing the pattern by hand. This did not stop her from giving her children the best she could. She made sure her children got an education and took them to church on Sundays. Over the years, Naomi started studying with the Jehovah Witnesses; she was baptized at an early age and totally committed to her faith as a Jehovah Witness. As the children became older and started to leave home, Naomi moved to Denver, Colorado with her youngest three children to be with her family.
She was a homemaker and worked as a caregiver for over 15 years. Once they moved to Denver, she made a new life for herself. She worked cleaning homes and she worked 15 years with Dayton Place Retirement as a Caregiver until her health would not allow her to work anymore.
Naomi was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending quality and memorable time with her children, family, and friends. She also loved cooking for family and friends. Her close friends were Kate Daniels, and Alvira Cordova; her family would call them the three amigos. Her other good friends were Larry Hendrickson, Pat Perry, Ms. Ruby, and many-many more. She was a fun-loving woman who loved people, her family, children and her grandchildren. Naomi was a strong woman with lots of wisdom, she made everyone feel special and loved everyone unconditionally. She was a special person, and everyone loved her. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this wonderful woman. To know Naomi was to love her.
