Nannie Lewis

Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on and cherished memories never fade because a loved one's gone; those we love can never be more than a thought apart; for as long as there is memory, they'll live on in the heart.

Nannie Elizabeth Lewis was born on December 11, 1935, in Meridian, Mississippi to her parents, Ernest Johnson and Thelma M. Kilpatrick Johnson. She was the second child born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her sister, Maeleen. She received her early education by attending school in Meridian.

On August 15, 1953, she wed Beather Evon Lewis. They first met in Nellieburg, Mississippi. They relocated to Denver, Colorado to be near her sister, Maeleen. To this union, two sons, Harold and Thomas were born. The couple had been married sixty-two years, when Beather preceded her in death.

Nannie was later blessed with four grandchildren Natalie, Darren, Nicole, Nia and three great grandchildren, Nile, Nhandi, and Cooper, who all were an additional source of joy and pride in her life. They lovingly called her "Granny" and fondly remember all the time she spent with each of them. She loved bragging and sharing with others about her grandchildren. She spent countless hours just sitting and talking with him.

Nannie was employed by several families. She was hardworking, dedicated and performed her duties with a spirit of excellence.

A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Nannie was a faithful and dedicated member of Saint Stephen Missionary Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. She served her church and the Lord as a member of the Inspirational Choir, she attended Leadership School and upon completion of all her courses, she graduated. She loved her church and her church family.

Nannie was a fun-loving woman who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed fishing, playing bingo, working word puzzles, word games, working in her garden and watching her favorite soap operas.

Her closest friend was her sister, Marleen. They conversed every night on the phone before going to bed. Nannie was a great cook and didn't mind feeding anyone who visited her home. She had a generous personality and will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman. To know Nannie was to love.

Nannie Elizabeth Lewis departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on April 20, 2019, in her home in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her 2 sons, Harold B. Lewis of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Thomas R. (Evelyn) Lewis of Denver, Colorado; 4 grandchildren, Natalie D. Lewis, Darren A. Lewis, both of Denver, Nicole D. (Wesley) Harris and Nia M. Lewis all of New York City, NY; 3 great grandchildren, Nile R. Hudson, Nhandi I. Hudson both of Denver and Cooper S. Harris of NYC, NY; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
