Life’s Journey

Murry Cooper

To plant a seed in one’s heart…to root it in love…

To nourish it with time spent together…

Yields a blossom that will flourish forever.

Murry Cooper was born on September 29, 1938, in Beaumont, Texas, to his parents, Marion Cooper, Sr., and Mary Teal Cooper. He was the sixth child born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brothers, Terry, Adrian, Marion, Walter, and his sisters, Sandra and LueDella. As a child, he was quiet, reserved, and a peacemaker. He enjoyed the time shared with all the neighborhood children. He and his brothers often caught crawfish and cooked them. His grandfather gave him the nickname “Buddy Red.”

Murry received his formal education in Beaumont, Texas, where he graduated from Charlton Pollard High School. On December 7, 1985, Murry united in holy matrimony to the former, Carrie A. Adams.  They first met in Beaumont then exchanged vows in Denver, Colorado. Shirley, Shelia, Raymond, Vernon, Constance, Sabrina, Kimberly, Mark, Murry, and Niekko were born to this union. Murry was a loving and devoted husband and father. The family enjoyed traveling, family events, parties, and holidays. They shared many happy and precious moments together.

He was later blessed with twenty-five grandchildren; and twenty-seven great-grandchildren, who all were an additional source of joy and pride in his life. They fondly remember his country dance, sneaking them ice cream in coffee cups, telling them to eat fast and not tell their grandmother. They also remember him racing with them and always winning. They, too, shared many memorable moments together.

By profession, Murry was the owner/operator of a construction company. He was hard-working, dedicated, and performed his duties with a spirit of excellence. He enjoyed being his own boss and taught many of his family members the tools and skills of his craft.

Murry was a fun-loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he loved the time spent with family and friends. He enjoyed playing dominoes, recording videos, and was known as the family “Barbeque King.” They also remember his jovial personality. His closest friends, Roger Huff, Jessie F., Ed Junior, and Lanelle, will miss the many comraderies they shared together and that he was a faithful and trusted friend. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and generous man. To know Murry was to love him.

Murry Cooper departed this life on October 31, 2021, in Aurora, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his loving and devoted wife, Carrie A. Cooper; four sons, Murry Gloud, Vernon R. Williams, Mark (Melisa) Cooper, and Raymound M. Williams; six daughters, Shirley D. Telford, Shelia A. Barlow, Constance E. (Bockarie) Vandy, Sabrina Cooper, Niekko Phoenix, and Kimberly (Herbert) Keys; two brothers, Terry (Rachel) Cooper and Adrian (Deloris) Cooper; two sisters, LueDella Brooks, and Sandra Bridges; twenty-five grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
