Mother Georgia Mary Morrow Edwards was born in Franklin, Texas to her parents, Harrison Morrow and Lillie Mae Issiac on April 26, 1923. Georgia attended Franklin Colored School and Page Norma Church of God In Christ School in her hometown of Franklin. She was born into Church of God In Christ and accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. As a child, Georgia attended St. Joseph Church of God In Christ. She labored in the cotton fields; yet, she was devoted to her labor in God's vineyard her entire life! In June of 1938, Georgia was united in holy matrimony to Cleophus Edwards, Sr. To this union, 10 children were born, Cleophus Jr., Barbara Ann, Bobby Joe, Billy Jim, Kathryn Ann, Donald Ray, Jeanie Marie, Jimmy Lee, Ada Rae, and Mary Ann. She was also a surrogate mother to many. Georgia and her family moved to Denver, Colorado in the late 1950's. Upon arriving to Colorado, Georgia and her children joined Paige's Temple Church of God In Christ under Elder Paige. A few years later, she joined Prayer Garden COGIC under Elder Lagway. In 1967, she joined Antioch COGIC under Bishop F. E. Johnson. For the past 12 years, Georgia was a member of Galilee COGIC under Elder M. Broadnax, and in 2012, Galilee merged congregations with Bethel COGIC where she was installed as the church mother. Throughout her years of service, Georgia spent much of her time helping with the Home and Foreign Missions, Shepherd's Cup, Pastor's Aide and Hospitality Committees along with being a "helping hand" in many other auxiliaries. By profession, she was a Domestic Worker for a number of prominent professionals in the Denver community. Georgia did more than just keep houses in order. Through her hard work and dedication, Georgia came to be regarded as a member of the families she worked for and their children often grew attached to her as a caregiver. Georgia will forever be remembered by the time and energy she devoted to caring for others. She had a passion for helping people from all walks of life and loved children. Yet she let it be known "Don't mess with my boys, I love my boys!" Other than diligently serving the call God had placed on her life Georgia also loved preparing her highly requested peach cobbler, fried chicken, selling dinners, and feeding many families. She enjoyed reading her Bible and working her crossword puzzles. Her favorite drink was Pepsi and her favorite treat was peppermints. On her 91 year journey, Georgia developed a vast amount of friendships and family-like relationships which are equally important and worthy of acknowledgement, yet there are too many to mention by name. Mother Georgia Edwards answered a call only she could answer when she heard the voice of the Lord say "Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden and I will give you rest." Therefore without hesitation Georgia answered the call and was welcomed into Heaven on Saturday December 27, 2014 in Aurora, Colorado. Georgia was preceded in death by her husband, Cleophus Edwards Sr., daughter Ada Edwards, 2 sons, Billy Edwards, Cleophus Edwards Jr. and 2 sisters, Ada M. McAfee, Naomi C. Henderson. Those left to cherish her memory include her children Barbara Edwards, Denver, CO, Bobby (Linda) Edwards, Kathryn (James) Goodloe, Donald Edwards, Jeanie (Joseph) Spellers, all of Aurora, CO, Jimmy Edwards, Phoenix, AZ, and Mary Ann Burks, Denver, CO. Three sisters Peggy Wash, Houston, TX, Billie Jean Harris, and Priscella (James) Ellison both of San Antonio, TX. 32 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren, 11 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and many friends.
