Morris Harris, Sr.

October 10, 1951 — February 17, 2015

Morris Alphonso Harris Sr. was born on October 10, 1951, in Memphis, Tennessee to his parents, Marvin Harris, Jr. and Eva Branch Harris. He was the only child born to this union. While in his youth, Morris' father was in the United States Air Force and was stationed in many different places including, England, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Smyrna, Tennessee, and Rapid City, South Dakota. Morris received an extensive education in every city the family was stationed. Morris attended high school in Rapid City, South Dakota, where he graduated in 1970. He continued his education in several colleges. Morris enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1971. He served our county with dignity and honor. He received training in the military as an apprentice security police. Morris was honorably discharged. On the Air Force base in Rapid City, South Dakota, Morris met Linda Gregory, and they later married. To this union, one child was born, Chinica Harris. This marriage was later dissolved. After some time, Morris married Gwendolyn Armstead and together they had three children, Morris, Jr, his only son, and two daughters, Maria and Marcia. The family would spend quality time together. Later, he was blessed with two grandchildren who would be an additional source of joy, family and friends were very important to Morris. Morris accepted the Lord as his personal savior and was a great evangelist in the name of the Lord. He served under Bishop Gilbert E. Patterson at Bountiful Blessings Church of God In Christ in Memphis, Tennessee. He moved to Denver, and served under Pastor Rueben Beechum at the House of Joy Miracle Deliverance Church until his passing. Morris would occasionally visit Mississippi Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Mitch Hamilton. Morris enjoyed "Hot Rod Cars." He loved looking at the cars and driving them. These cars were his passion. Morris was loved by all, he even had a childhood friend, James C. Nolan from Memphis, Tennessee come all the way from Franklin, Louisiana to visit him two days prior to his passing. "Morris touched many lives and we treasure all the memories, love and friendships he has bestowed upon us. Morris will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him." Morris Alphonso Harris Sr. departed this life to his eternal life on February 17, 2015 in Commerce City, Colorado. He leaves to cherish his memory and to mourn his loss, the joys of his life, his children, Chinica M. Hernandez, Denver, CO, Morris A. Harris Jr., Memphis, TN, Maria D. Johnson, Fort Campbell, KY, Marcia D. Harris, Memphis TN; his parents, Marvin Harris, Jr. and Eva Harris, Denver, CO; his uncle and aunt, Robert L. and Lamarge Branch, Providence, TX; two grandchildren, and a host of other relatives, and many friends.
