Our mother was brave. She crossed an ocean to bring us here, leaving behind the life of her youth. Born in Panama, de Republic of Panama on December 7, 1943, Barbara Elena Ricketts, daughter of Roy Lester and Sylvia Daniel, loved God, poetry, writing, and helping others. In 1967 Barbara married her love Eduardo Ricketts who she had known since she was 12 years old. Together the couple brought three children into the world. In her late 20's with children in tow and facing what seemed like insurmountable odds, Barbara found her foundation, her rock, and her salvation. Barbara accepted Jesus in her heart and set about doing his work. As Sister Ricketts she went to Haiti to perform missionary work. As Evangelist Ricketts she preached The Word to all who thirst for knowledge. As Mother Ricketts she counseled the hopeless, sowed seeds of encouragement, fed the hungry, clothed the needy and opened her home to those needing guidance. "At the age of 29, God called me into the ministry. I saw people being delivered, saved, healed and set free as I began to travel throughout Panama, to Haiti, Cuba and then to the streets of Brooklyn, New York. I watched God deliver them from drugs and gangs and often witnessed the power of God break the spirit of suicide in many lives. Thus, both in the spiritual and natural realm, this ministry of deliverance and restoration became a reality in my life." -Barbara Ricketts At 50 years old while many people turn their eyes to retirement, Barbara achieved two of her life's goals; by graduating with her Bachelor's Degree and becoming a teacher in the Denver Public School system. Later in life Barbara became an avid Denver Broncos fan. The highlight of her fandom culminated when she was able to meet, talk to and share tales of her favorite team with former players. On March 14th the world lost a woman who lived her religious beliefs. Barbara will be greatly missed but never forgotten. She will sing with the angels and God will say, "well done good and faithful servant." And she will smile that great big smile of hers and together, hand in hand, they will walk into heaven. Thank you Barbara for; touching all of our lives, for taking time to listen, for being a prayer warrior, and for patiently loving us all. "Let not your hearts be troubled" rejoice with us today as we celebrate A Life Well Lived.
