Michelle Sterrett

August 3, 1965 — September 25, 2016

Michelle was born on August 3, 1965 to Spencer L. Thompson (deceased) and Stella M. Thompson in Denver, Colorado. She was the youngest of eight siblings. Michelle attended Barrett Elementary, Gove Junior High, and graduated from South High School, all in the Denver Public Schools District. Michelle continued her education at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley. "Pip," as she was called by her family and friends, was of small stature but could well hold her own, physically and mentally. As a child, Michelle attended dance school and private swimming lessons; she was quite a swimmer and won several ribbons and certificates. Dancing and swimming became a chore for her after a while and we thought her complaints of aches and pains was because practice interfered with her social life. After several medical tests, we found that Multiple Sclerosis (MS) was the true cause of her aches and pains. Michelle was baptized at an early age at Mount Gilead Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. Acen L. Phillips. Even though after her marriage she moved her fellowship to Heritage Christian Center, she still recognized Mount Gilead as her home and knew who to contact for any serious discussion. Pip started her career life employed at Gerry Baby Products as an Administrative Assistant for the Purchasing Department from 1989-1994. She processed baby product orders throughout the country and organized yearly seminars for over 200 purchasing agents. From 1994-1997, she worked at Norwest Bank as an Administrative Assistant for Private Banking and Marketing. Her responsibilities included tracking customer accounts and organizing special events. She assisted three managers with various duties including compiling census information focusing on minority populations and low income mortgages, tracking and reporting interest rates from various banks and investment firms. From 1997-1999, she worked for the Regional Transportation District (RTD) as a Telephone Specialist/Supervisor Access-A-Ride. She coordinated meetings and appointments, provided route information for riders, and set up transportation assistance. She also issued discount passes to disabled individuals and taught students and the elderly how to use the bus service. Michelle Lynn Sterrett "Pip" was a devoted wife and mother, who had a special commitment to her family. She worked fulltime and helped our son with his homework and always encouraged him to be the best student, athlete and person that he could be. As a wife, she was a special life partner who supported me in my career and helped me to succeed. Pip entertained friends and family and loved to listen to Gospel, R&B, and Hip Hop music. If you wanted to learn the latest dance, Pip was the one to go to as she had all of them down and could show you the right way to "Get Down." Pip was an exotically beautiful woman with a chocolate complexion, high cheekbones and long black hair. Standing 4'11" tall, with a shape that got attention everywhere we went – almost caused me to get into some fights at times! Pip was a loving, caring, compassionate woman who loved GOD, and cherished every day with a zest for life and love. We will miss her and pray that we will someday be reunited with her. May God Protect and Comfort Her In Eternity. Michelle, known as "Pip" enjoyed spending time with her extended family to include many cousins here in Colorado and beyond. There was nothing she wouldn't challenge you on, and I'm sure she would like her remembrance to be of her many jokes and antics she would pull. Michelle Lynn "Pip" Sterrett departed this life on September 25, 2016 in Denver, Colorado. She leaves to cherish her many memories, her husband of thirty years, Theodore "Ted" N. Sterrett of Arvada, CO, son; Quincey W. (Lili) Sterrett; her grandchildren, Karma and Jay'vonn, all of Thornton, CO; her mother, Stella M. Thompson of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters, Selena Allen of Aurora, CO, Toni M. (Donavon) Green, Cheri L. Thompson, Lalitta M. Freeman, Kim Y. (Curtis) Lindley, all of Denver, Sena R. Griffin of Colorado Springs, CO, Ruby Henderson of Baton Rouge, LA; brothers, Roosevelt Freeman, Jr. of Denver, and Daryck C. (Diane) Thompson of Aurora, CO; and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
