Michelle Scoggins

July 16, 1943 — February 17, 2018

Michelle Yvonne Cousins-Scoggins was born on July 16, 1943, in Denver, Colorado to her parents, Craig R. Cousins and Verneice Stephens Cousins. She was the first of two children born in the family. As a child, she was a natural born leader because she was the oldest and her sister, Yvette and cousin, Dale had to listen to her. She was given the nickname, “Honey Dripper.” That was the name of her favorite song by Joe Liggins and the Honey Drippers. Michelle received her formal education in Denver, Colorado where she graduated from Cathedral High School. She furthered her education by attending the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, Colorado, Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, Colorado and Barnes Business College in Denver, Colorado. On April 26, 1970, Michelle united in holy matrimony to Willie R. Scoggins. They first met at Mr. Chris’s Hamburger Stand. They exchanged vows at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church. To this union a son, Aaron Drake was born. The family enjoyed traveling all around the country; some of those trips include Jamaica and San Francisco, California, which she loved dearly. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother, who was caring and nurturing. She was later blessed with a granddaughter, named Alaina Yvonne Scoggins. They shared many happy precious moments together. By profession, Michelle was employed by United Airlines as a Reservationist. She was hard-working, dedicated, and performed her duties with a spirit of excellence. She loved to travel and was able to see the country as well as travel abroad. She worked with the company for over thirty-five years and retired after many years of faithful and dedicated service. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Michelle was a lifelong member of St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church. She believed in the power of prayer and the fellowship shared with her church family. Michelle was a fun-loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed socializing with family and friends. She loved being a member of “The 40’s Card Club” where they shared good food, good laughs, and good company. Her closest friends, Betty Cato, Joanne Smith, Mary Sims, Dale Minter, and Marvin Cushenberry, will miss sharing birthdays, special occasions, and conversing with each other. Many of her friends have known each other since childhood. “Big Chelle” as she was affectionately called by her nieces, nephews, and other family members was an active part of their lives. She shared with them during special achievements and milestones in life. She would offer them encouragement and was always there when they needed her. Michelle was a pet lover, her current pet dog, “Buddy” and she loved each other unconditionally. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman. To know Michelle was to love her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Craig R. and Verneice Cousins. Michelle Yvonne Cousins Scoggins departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on February 17, 2018, in her home in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her husband, Willie R. Scoggins; her son, Aaron D. Scoggins; her sister, C. Yvette Cousins, all of Denver, Colorado; her granddaughter, Alaina Y. Scoggins of Aurora, Colorado; her niece, Michelle Spikes of Denver, Colorado; her nephew, Anthony Spikes, Esquire of New York; her cousins, Julie Hoover, Stephen Cazenave, Marc Minter, and Jason Minter and a host other relatives and many friends.
