Micheal was born on March 10, 1954 to the parents of James H. Spivey (deceased) & Geneice R. Viser. Mike grew up in Houston with his brother Emell Spivey. He is the father of 2 beautiful children Nicole Andranae and Joshua Jerrel Spivey.
He attended the University of Colorado Boulder. At CU Mike was 1st team Big 8, 2nd team all American and played in several post season Bowl games; Astro Blue Bonnet Bowl 1976, Orange Bowl 1977, Senior Bowl 1977 and 2nd team all American 1977.
Mike was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 2nd round in 1977, then he joined the 1980 Superbowl winning Oakland Raiders. While playing with New Orleans Saints Mike studied the bible daily becoming a scholar of the New Testament. He finished his career in football with the Atlanta Falcons.
He was ordained by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in 1981 and traveled the country ministering in high schools, colleges, and military. Mike was a “Buff for Life” and continued his ministry as chaplain for the CU Football team from 1994-2006, returning again for years 2011-2012
In 2008 Micheal married his soulmate, Debra Mayes. The two were inseparable. Mike was called to Pastor in 2013 at Compass Christian Fellowship and together they were able to foster a loving family environment who loved to dig deeper in the Word. Bannered Host Ministries was launched also in 2013 with the “After God’s Own Heart” Youth Program. They always said they gave birth to twins and served both ministries for 10+ years.
On June 26, 2023 Micheal was called to Glory. The twinkle in his eye and his contagious smile will be with us forever. There will never be another Mike Spivey…
