Michael Reid

December 2, 1957 — October 6, 2017

Michael Reid was born in Philadelphia, PA on Monday, December 2, 1957, to Miss Tena Reid. Although Michael was stricken with many devastations from the complications of diabetes, he exemplified tremendous courage. We lost him on Friday, October 6, 2017, at Denver Hospice in Lowry while in the care of Dr. Luis Ramos who blessed us as a family with his compassion and professionalism. Michael lived in Illinois, New Jersey, Texas and South Carolina before he and his family moved to Colorado in 1971. He attended Denver East High School before joining the United States Navy (serving from October 29, 1976 through October 26, 1979). His service gave him the opportunity to travel Europe while meeting many new people, which was truly his passion. We celebrate his incredible warmth and sincerity as Michael loved people and extended the hand of friendship to everyone. Exuberance, kindness, gentleness and patience were gifts he used in service to his church, family, and the community. He was actively involved in his church for many years and in various organizations like Promise Keepers. Michael's love for God was the center of his life and motivated all that he did. It was his desire that everyone who crossed his path in life come to know and love our Lord Jesus Christ. Michael spent the majority of his career in retail security working at Joslins and the Marriott, then ending his working life as a bus driver for RTD. He lived life with zest while doing the many things he loved, which included watching football (since he was an avid Denver Broncos fan), traveling, going to the movies, dining out and spending time with friends and family. Our lives are richer for having known him and we will always remember his laughter and the best of times. Michael leaves to cherish his memory: his parents Robert and Tena Banks, his wife Tracy Reid, and their children, Aaron, Gabrielle and Ian Reid; his sisters Deborah January (Houston, TX), Carolyn Keliiholokai (Aurora, CO), Cheryl Banks (Aurora, CO); his brothers Harold Reid (Aurora, CO), David Banks (Denver, CO), Gregory Banks (Denver, CO); aunts and uncles, Hattie Reid (Seneca, SC), Lillie Reid (Newark, NJ), Mildred (Marion) Carson (Newark, NJ), Pearl James Gibbs (Senaca, SC), and a host of nieces and nephews Latoya Atkins, Stephanie Keliiholokai, Andrea Webb, Lameisha Banks, Maikala Banks, Tyreke Banks, Patrick January, and Romell Reid; great nephew Ajayce Webb; great nieces Aubrey Webb and Jayana Johnson. Michael's absence will be profoundly felt by his dearest friend of 41 years, Billy Kennedy (Lakewood, CO).
