Michael Eugene Harris, Sr. was born on May 12, 1959, in Montgomery, Alabama to his parents, George T. Harris, Sr. and Vivian Y. Baker Harris. He was raised surrounded by his brother, George, Jr., and his sisters, Vickie, Deborah, Patricia, and Darlene. As a child, he enjoyed the time shared with his father and he loved dancing. The family eventually relocated to Denver, Colorado, where he completed his formal education graduating from Manual High School in 1976.
In 1976, Michael enlisted in the United States Army. While serving his country, Michael received numerous awards and citations for his meritorious service. He was stationed in Germany. He served with honor and distinction and honorably discharged.
In 1992, Michael wed, Angela Smith. They first met in Denver. The couple enjoyed dancing and cooking together. To this union, Chelsea was born. He was the stepfather of Kristina and Darius. He was also the proud father of Michael, Jr. Family was important to Michael, he loved cooking for them and they remember his jovial personality and his being protective of them. Later his grandchildren were an additional source of joy and pride in his life. They lovingly called him “Papa” “Sweetie” and Grandpa” and fondly remember he dancing with them, singing, his big hugs, and he joking with them. They all shared many happy and memorable moments together.
By profession, Michael was in Transportation Services. He has worked with the Denver Public Schools, RTD, Sand and Gravel Company, as a Driver. His co-workers remember his jovial personality, and willingness to help. He was hard-working and dedicated. His closest friends will miss his sense of humor and his great big heart. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man. To know Michael was to love him.
Michael Eugene Harris, Sr. departed this life on December 8, 2023, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include 2 sons, Michael E. Harris, Jr. and Darius A. Smith; 2 daughters, Kristina M. Lance, and Chelsea R. Harris; 1 brother, George T. Harris, Jr.; 1 sister, Pastor Vickie M. (DaVince) Wright; 7 grandchildren, Laila G. Cheatham, Aiden C. Smith, Alayyah M. Smith, Leiani R. Smith, Sanai M. Harris, Makayla L. Harris, Makyla L. Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
