The pages of this book began for Michael Lynn Currie on May 25, 1960 in Decatur, Illinois. He was the second of four children born to Frances Marlene Murphy and Marzel Currie. Growing up as a child, Michael was raised by his stepfather, James Dinkins.
From an early age, Michael joined the swim team. He was an excellent swimmer who was awarded with several medals for his achievements. In addition to swimming, he enjoyed playing basketball. Michael received his formal education at Mac Arthur High School in Decatur, Illinois where he was a member of the wrestling team.
In 1982, Michael moved to Denver, Colorado which later became his home. Michael was employed as a Baker at Vida France in Denver where he met several of his best buddies. He worked there for 13 ½ years. In 1987, Michael met Shannon Walker and from this relationship, their son, Rejis Curry was born on January 10, 1990. Rejis was the first love of his life and he adored his baby boy whom is known as his twin.
In 1996, Michael was reunited with a friend of his, Gertrude whom he fell in love with. They were joined in holy matrimony and to this union, he gained two children Leticia and Papi were born.
Michael gained a source of pride and joy with the addition of his grandchildren. He spent lots of time quality time with them and was always present to support them. Michael was the life of the party and always wore a smile on his face. He would hug you and tell you several times how much he loved you.
By profession, Michael was a Baker, he started working in 1997 at Steven Roberts Original Bakery where he retired after 25 years of employment.
Michael was loved by many and will truly be missed.
Michael is preceded in death by his mother, Frances Marlene Dinkins; his father, Marzel Currie; his stepfather, James Dinkins; mother-in-law, Theresa Robinson; his sisters, Crystal Currie Davis and Tina Murphy.
Those left to cherish his memory include his lovely wife, Gertrude Currie; sons, Rejis Curry and Papi (Melvina) Orr; his daughter, Leticia Collins; his brothers, Mark Murphy and Nathan Murphy; his sisters, Jacqueline Murphy and Kimberly Murphy. His aunts, Linda Murphy of Lake Charles, North Carolina and Karen (Charles) Baltimore of Decatur, Illinois; 3 sister-in-law’s, Cherri, Marth and Linda Clark; brother-in-law, James Clark; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; special friend, Jonzetta Vaden a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
