Melvin Barnes

June 14, 1959 — July 19, 2019

Melvin Barnes was born in Omaha Nebraska on June 14, 1959 Unto Helen and Elmore Barnes.

As a child he traveled to many different places with his family including Southbend, Indiana where he attended elementary school. In the late 60s they settled in Denver, Colorado. It was there he met his life long friends Ellis “Skip” Kellem and Paul “Pete” Williams. Oh the stories they could tell.

Melvin graduated from George Washington high and enlisted in the Army in 1977. He later returned to Colorado where he began his career with Hertz rental cars and worked there faithfully until his retirement. At this time Melvin was reunited with his soul mate Lucritha Williams. Born unto this union was his only child Arjanea Williams.

In 2003, Melvin formed an enduring bond with Sandy Schileve whom he called his Lucy. Both as partners and friends, the two played pivotal roles in each other's lives.

There was nothing Melvin loved more than nature except the Denver Broncos, the ladies (he was definitely a ladies man), and kicking back with his nephews Dante, Deon, Teron, Nile, Kahlid, Shabazz and Robby. He truly loved them like his own. From camping, to fishing, to feeding the animals in Evergreen, he simply enjoyed life and what it had to offer.

In 2015 he met his life partner Lisa Vaughan, who helped fulfilled his love for life and adventure.

He truly loved the lord and was a man of strength and courage. By God’s grace he defeated the odds of cancer not once but three times along with several other life threatening occurrences. Though his faith never waivered he continued press on.

He is proceeded in death by Mother Helen Barnes, father Elmore Barnes; brothers Elmore “Bobby”Barnes and Cornell Barnes; sister Evelyn Carpenter, and nephew Hakijah Ector. On July 19, 2019 Melvin decended from this earthly realm into his heavenly home. He leaves to cherish his memory his Daughter Arjanea Williams; sister Shirley Blanton; wife Sandy Barnes; life partner Lisa Vaughan; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
