Mary Demetra Robinson was born on November 17, 1955, in St. Louis, Missouri to her parents, Joseph E. Robinson, Jr. and Mary L. Gibson Robinson. She was the third child born in the family. She was raised surrounded by her brothers, Joseph, Jr., Dominic and her sisters, Stephanie and Diana. A fond childhood memory was that of Demetra and her sister, Diana who looked so much alike that they would trick some of the neighborhood boys to see if they could tell them apart. She was also credited with selling mud pies. Demetra received her formal education in Denver where she attended East High School. She later completed courses which allowed her to earn her GED. Demetra was the proud mother of two beautiful daughters, Shashawn and Sherita. She was a loving and devoted mother who took comfort in the care and nurture of her family. She was later blessed with three grandchildren, Tajhae', Sanyiah and Jackson, who all were additional source of joy and pride in her life. They shared many happy and memorable moments together. By profession, Demetra was a Client Service Supervisor for the Social Security Administration. She was hardworking, dedicated and performed her duties with a spirit of excellence. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Demetra was a member of the Church of Christ of Forest Street. She served her church and the Lord as the Director of the Food Bank Ministry, the Ladies Committee and the choir. She truly enjoyed the fellowship shared with her church family and wisdom and knowledge she gained as she studied the Bible. At the time of her passing, she had been a member for over twenty five years. Some of her civic duties include being a member of the Denver Federation of Colored Women's Club and the LaBella Art and Literary Club. Demetra was a fun-loving woman, who enjoyed life and those she encircled. In her free time, she enjoyed scrap booking, spending time with her grandchildren, watching her two favorite football teams, The Denver Broncos and The Dallas Cowboys, volunteering her time with various organizations, playing card games, and volleyball. She also enjoyed singing, dancing, selling Mary Kay Products, collecting Beanie Babies, sports memorabilia and black art. Her closest friends, Joyce Cheatham and Jessie Coleman will miss the camaraderie's they all shared together and the fact that she was a true and trusted friend. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this one of kind woman, who believed in lending a helping hand to others and always carried an upbeat spirit. To know Demetra was to love her. She is preceded in death by her father, Joseph E. Robinson, Jr. Mary Demetra Robinson departed this life to the Lord's embrace on August 11, 2016, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her 2 daughters, Shashawn R. Campbell of Lewisville, Texas and Sherita S. Carraway of Aurora; her mother, Mary L. Robinson of Denver; 2 brothers, Joseph E. (LaToya) Robinson of Hercules, California and Dominic A. (Loretta) Robinson of Parker, CO; 2 sisters, Stephanie R. (Michael) Richardson of Richmond, Texas and Diana L. Walker of Sacramento, California; 3 grandchildren, Tajhae' D. Darden, Sanyiah K. Price both of Aurora and Jackson M. Campbell of Lewisville, Texas and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
