Mary Alice Christian was born in Denton, Texas on September 18, 1931 to parents Elnora and Walter D. Parks Sr. She was the oldest child born of this union, with two brothers Walter D. Jr. and Steven and one sister Lillie. It was in Denver that Mary met and married the love of her life, XL Christian and from this union are four children: Leneice, Lindette, Jerry, and Zynthia. They shared a loving and full life together with their children until XL passed in 1990. Her children will always remember her as a very protective and loving mother. As a devoted wife, she remained a widow until her death. Mary was a member of Central Baptist Church in Denver and also a member of the Eastern Star lodge. She worked as a waitress at the Ritz Café on the Five Points for over 40 years and continued bettering herself by taking educational courses at Emily Griffith Opportunity School in Denver. Caring for family and friends was Mary's greatest joy and her home was always opened as a place of refuge for anyone in need. She was a proud and loving grandmother. Her grandchildren called her "granny/grandma" and her great grandchildren called her "great grand". She loved laughing, joking and being around family and friends; while looking forward to any occasion that would unite everyone together for playing games such as spades, dominoes, bid wiz, phase 10, scrabble and much more!!! Mary was truly the "Shining Star" of the family in every way. The Price is Right, The Young and the Restless, Judge Judy and Walker, Texas Ranger were some of her favorite television shows to watch. She enjoyed doing word search puzzle books, and watching her favorite football team the "BRONCOS". She was kind, quiet, gentle, fair, compassionate and slow to anger with a contagious laugh and smile that no one could get away from. Her caregivers loved her and stated how pleasant she made their shifts. No matter how she felt she always had a smile on her face, joked with them and said her favorite words, "I love you" and "God bless you". Mary was called home to glory on the evening of May 16, 2016. She was preceded in death by her parents Elnora and Walter Parks Sr., sister Lillie Thompson, brother Walter Parks Jr., and husband XL Christian. Left to cherish her memory are brother Steven Parks of Memphis, TN; daughters Leneice Wilson and Lindette Young and both of Denver, CO; son-in-law Michael Young of Denver, CO; four grandchildren Monita, Jeremy, Raven and Quannesha; eight great grandchildren Kandyce, Keith, Jamilia, DeMarques, Naomi, Desirae, Jacob, Jaycee and a host of many other relatives and friends that she loved and cared for. Mary's love, care, laugh, open arms, and humbleness will always be missed but never forgotten by all that were blessed to have been a part of her life. We all loved her but God loved her more.
