Marvin Lee Rivers was born on October 20,1962 in Denver, Colorado, to his parents Benjamin Lee Rivers and Nancy Louise Sherman. He was the second child born in the family. He was raised with his older sister, Antoinette and his stepfather, Mac. He grew up around a lot of his cousins and those bonds still exist today. He loved his grandmother to pieces, and his relationship with his mother was so warm and close.
He always enjoyed spending quality time with each of them. Marvin met the love of his life, Donna. Donna and Marvin were inseparable, she remembers on their second date he said they were going out to
dinner, but they arrived at his house and he had already prepared a catfish dinner. They were eating and Marvin said to her, "I'm going to marry you!" She looked at him like he was crazy and said, "I just met you and I don't even love you." In the end, his words were true, and they were married for 20 Years. Marvin was the proud father of Terence, Avery, Danielle, Dominique, Alicia, and Aleah, and he was later blessed with eight grandchildren. Marvin loved all of his children and grandchildren unconditionally!
His face smiled through the phone, when he found out he was going to be a grandfather. He made sure he supported his children and grandchildren in everything. If you had children, he expected you to give them 100% of you as a parent. He always said and firmly believed, a child did not ask to be born. He loved going to his son's football games, since they were age nine. He would take them bike riding, when they were little, and when they got tired, he would carry the bikes back home. He made sure he complimented his daughters, no matter how they looked. They were daddy's little girls. Seeing his daughters graduate from high school were such proud moments for him but having those boys around who were interested in his daughter were out the question.
Marvin was a provider. He made sure his family had a roof over their head, food in their stomachs, and clothes on their backs. One of the things that his wife loved about Marvin was his work ethic. By profession, Marvin worked as a Master Plumber for ARS and Rescue Rooter for the past 20 years. He loved his job. He was an honest dependable man. He always strived to learn more about his craft and share his knowledge with others. He provided quality work, "No half steppin," as he would call it. Marvin always went to work every day and never complained; to make sure his family were taken care of.
Marvin loved to go fishing, something that his grandparents instilled in him at a young age. So, he went out and bought a boat, and took his son out fishing. Even though the boat sank,
he made sure that he was able to enjoy fishing with his son. He enjoyed Summer BBQ's on Sundays, at home. All the kids and grandkids would come over and spend the day. Having a great
time, smelling his ribs, burgers, and steaks on the grill. Baking his chocolate chip cookies in the oven, and he always made sure there was cold milk in the fridge. But it wasn’t a BBQ, if Keith Sweat or some old school music wasn't playing in the background. He loved listening to music. He would have movie night every Friday and make the best Ice cream sundaes and homemade pizzas.
He was a serious man who knew what he wanted in life. He knew what needed to be done, and he would get it done. Marvin had no time for foolishness but being around his family brought him great joy. He will be missed by so many, who have loved, learned and laughed with him.
