Martha Mae Foster was born May 23, 1926, in Sumter, South Carolina to Elizabeth "Betsy" Shaw and Dewey Potts. Her Mother died at an early age and she was raised by her grandmother, Martha Clark and grandfather, James Shaw "Old Man Jean Shaw." She received her early education by attending the Sumter School District. On November 1950, Martha united in marriage to Curtis Edward Foster. The couple traveled around world while Curtis served his country in the United State Air Force. To this union, seven children were born, Michael, Curtis Ann, Leicester, Vera, Sharon, Carla, and Sandra. Martha accepted Christ at an early age. She was ever calm and serene in her Baptist faith. She was a member of Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church under the pastoral leadership of Reverend James T. Pruitt. She devoted much of her time and energy as a homemaker/caregiver to family members. She adopted her granddaughters, Cheryl "Niecy" and Paula after the death of her daughter, Curtis Ann and assumed the role of mother to them. She also undertook the role as caregiver to grandsons, Julius Ellerbee, IV and Thomas King and granddaughter, Sharlena Foster. She always sacrificed her needs for the good of her family. She lived her life always welcoming any and every one into her home. She knew how to have fun, always told a good story, loved to entertain, was an exceptional cook and will be remembered for her hospitality. She was the type of friend that we all yearn for: loyal and honest, understanding, always willing to lend a hand. She was an angel on earth, well loved by everyone. Her daughters, Curtis Ann Hargrove, Carla and Vera Foster; son, Michael Foster; sisters, Daisy Mae Potts, Gladys Clarkson and Grace Mildred Perry; and husband, Curtis E. Foster preceded her in death. Martha Mae Foster departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on May 2, 2016, in Denver, Colorado.
