Marsha Jenkins

Marsha Mae Jenkins was born on November 5, 1940 in Bradley, Arkansas, to Steve and Ida Simmons. Marsha was the fourth of ten children. She grew up surrounded by the love of her brothers Steve Jr., Matthew, and Frank; and her sisters Earnestine, Ida Mae, Betty, Mary Lee, Clara Mae, Flora Dean, and adopted sister Bennie Sue. As a child, she enjoyed teasing and playing jokes on everyone. She once shot and killed a rattlesnake to keep it from striking her younger sister. Marsha received her education at Bumpham School in Bradley. In May 1958, Marsha met Al Jenkins at church and the two were joined in marriage. Eight children were born to this union: daughters Margaret (Sam), Donna, Vickie, Sheila, Theresa, and Yvette and sons Bruce and Kenneth. Marsha worked as a laborer and homemaker. Her children will most remember her for cooking, baking cakes, and taking them shopping and to church. Marsha was a long time member of East Denver Bible Baptist Church. In her free time, she enjoyed playing cards with her friends, being surrounded by her children and grandchildren, and drinking Pepsi. In her community, she was widely loved and respected for taking in and caring for people in need. She is known to have never turned away a soul in need of food or shelter. Marsha was called to Glory on April 14, 2013 in her home. She leaves to cherish her memory seven children, thirty-nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren who knew her as "Granny" or "Grandmom", five sisters, two brothers, over forty nieces and nephews, and a host of relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her daughter Yvette, granddaughter Zoe, great-granddaughter Christi'anna, her parents, her sister Clara, and brother Matthew.
