Obituary for Marlene Y. Fleming
Marlene Yvonne Dean Fleming was born July 2, 1952, in Topeka, KS to the proud parents, Eulah Lois (Sawyer) Dean and Orange Robert Dean III. She was the fourth child out of nine born in the family. Marlene was raised in a loving home surrounded by 7 brothers, Orange IV (Letha), Steve (Margaret), William (Taletha), Terence, Merrill, Marcus (Loles), Clifford (Sherritta) and one sister, Ursula Dean Barber.
As a child, Marlene loved to participate in a number of neighborhood outdoor sports. She enjoyed cooking and sewing but one of her most favorite things to do was to antagonize her brothers!
Marlene moved to Aurora, CO in 1977. Shortly thereafter, she met and married Julius Fleming. She had 3 sons with this union, Julius (Kelly), Howard and Brian. Marlene was blessed with 7 grandchildren, Elijah, Amira, Howard Jr., Shaelyn, Peyton, and Jayshaun. Family meant so much to Marlene and she was always excited to spend time with her sons, grandchildren and her church family, which she loved dearly.
In her adult life, Marlene continued her love for sports which included working out at the gym, watching special sport events and cheering on her favorite football team, the Kansas City Chiefs.
Marlene's early professional career included, positions held in the banking and insurance industries. She spent a number of years with the Aurora Police Department, before settling with the Aurora Public School system in 1989. Oh, how she loved working in the classroom as a volunteer parent when her sons attended Tollgate Elementary School. She was active in the lives of so many students and significantly influenced their childhood development. Her time as a volunteer parent at the elementary school encouraged Marlene to begin her career in the classroom. Marlene served in the General Education Paraprofessional field for over 30 years with the Aurora Public School District, until she semi-retired in early 2018. She so loved working with the kids; so she continued to serve as a substitute Educational Assistance as late as January 2020. As we celebrate her life and legacy, we are inspired by how she cared for people with a heart of compassion. We are amazed by the many lives Marlene impacted in her home, work, church, and community.
Being a woman of faith with belief in the Lord, Marlene's number one interest was serving and praising the Lord. While her most recent membership was with Calvary Church of Aurora, she has a strong history as long-time member of Rising Star Missionary Baptist Church where she faithfully served as head of the Senior's mission group.
Marlene loved to stay in God's Word, reading, learning and watching multiple Television ministries. She was always delighted for every opportunity to attend worship service with her entire family.
One of Marlene's great aspirations was to visit Israel. It appeared this was finally going to come true with a trip scheduled to depart with Calvary Church on January 31st , however; Marlene was called home to be with the Lord January 28, 2020, prior to what was planned on earth. What she must realize now, her view from heaven will be far greater than the one she visualized to be so exciting and glorious!
Marlene was preceded in death by her father, Orange R. Dean III and Mother, Eulah L. Dean. Marlene will truly be missed by her family, church family, and all who knew her.
The family wishes to thank you for your expressions of kindness during this time but most importantly we want to thank you for the love, care and friendship you showed Marlene.
