Mark was ever learning. He received his formal education by attending Harrington Elementary, Merrill Junior High, and graduated from Kennedy High School in the Denver Public School District. He was a student of life and spent much of his time talking with the wise men of the neighborhood. Many times, we’d ask, “Where’s Mark?” He would almost always be found holding a long conversation with Mr. Kelly, Mr. Rice, or Mr. Richardson, older men in the neighborhood. As a young child, he earned the nickname of “Joe Mark” for being an “old soul”. Mechanically inclined, Mark watched his dad work on cars and trucks, and learned all he could from this experience. He was good with his hands and could fix almost anything. In his youth, Mark built go-carts and motorized mini bikes with his friends in the neighborhood. He was creative and devised several ways to entertain himself and family members as a kid. He was fun-loving, a good pool player, and loved all kinds of music. Mark would turn serious on a dime and if his intense stare didn’t set matters straight, he would follow with precise words to get your attention. Mark was the proud father of Javae, Mark, and Gloria. He loved his children and cherished the moments they shared. Mark resided in Denver for the last 14 years after returning from Minneapolis, MN where he lived for a decade. He met LaTanja Hogan in Minneapolis. Through this union, Mark became to stepfather of Douglas, Danielle, Dantel, and Nathaniel. Mark and LaTanja were employed at Wagner Spray Tech and they remained a loving couple for 22 years. The two of them managed the Clermont House Apartments for eleven years until the building was sold in 2017. Mark and LaTanja found their greatest (great) joy in raising Carlia, their 2 ½ year old granddaughter. Mark was ever learning.
