Mr. Mark Anthony Barber was the third child born to the late Rev. Alonzo Barber, Sr., and Mrs. Doris Lee Barber-Fields, on October 18, 1952 in Kansas City, Kansas. Mark received his formal education through the Kansas City, Missouri School System, where he attended, Sanford B. Ladd, Central Junior and Central Senior High School. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree (History) at Northwest Missouri State University in Marysville, Missouri.
Mark accepted faith in Christ at an early age at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri under the late Pastor, Sinclair Thompson. He served in Sunday school, youth choir, and Baptist Training Union.
Mark left Kansas City and relocated to the Mile-High City of Denver, Colorado in 1975 to begin his professional teaching career as an accomplished educator. Mark loved helping all children, especially those at risk. He later branched into Special education in the Denver Public School system. Mark enjoyed seeing the many students he taught in the community and how they had excelled.
In his leisure time Mark was very active and busy in the community he was a member of the Denver Urban League, National Association of Colored People (NAACP), and various programs helping at risk youth. He was a member of New Mission Baptist Church, under retired Pastor, Rev. Harold Joe Hicks.
Mark was an avid sports fan and as a child, he loved playing football. Days before he left us, he claimed that the Kansas City Chiefs would win the Superbowl. He loved all types of music to include listening to jazz, blues, and old school R&B. In fact in college, Mark was given the name of "Easy-Walk "because of his soulful stride on the dance floor.
Mark was proceeded in death by his loving parents: Rev. Alonzo Barber, Sr., and Mrs. Doris Lee Barber-Fields; and one sister Mrs. Marilyn A. Hicks. His memory will be forever cherished by his former spouse his and life -long soulmate, Ms. Gail Tipton- Barber children Jessie and Daniel (Jake),grandson JQ, his only brother Mr. Alonzo Barber, Jr. (Elaine) of Edmond, Oklahoma, Sisters: Mrs. Angelia Y. Reece (Ricky) of Jacksonville, NC, and Mrs. Yolanda G. Wallace (Rev. Gary) of Biloxi, Mississippi.
Mark was very proud of his nieces, nephews, and he loved how they have accomplished in their prospective careers. Nephews: Rev. Tracy (TD) Hicks (Joan) of Topeka, Kansas, Mr. Alonzo Barber, III (Kiasha) of Dunkirk, Maryland, Mr. Gary A. Wallace Jr, Atlanta, Georgia, Mr. Aaron Barber(Candace)Louisville, Texas, Mr. Andre Barber, Honolulu, Hawaii, Mr. Stacy Hicks(Shantel) Phoenix, Arizona. Ricky Reece, Jr. Jacksonville, North Carolina. Nieces: Mrs. Leah James (Jauron) Twenty-Nine Palms, California, Ms. Ariante' Wallace Shreveport, Louisiana, and Ms. Eryka Wallace Anderson, South Carolina. Trusted Caregiver and friend Mrs. Tracy Grider.
18 great nieces and nephews, numerous god-children, relatives, and other life-long friends and the Central High School Class of 1970 Kansas City, Missouri.
