Marjorie Bailey

Marjorie Bailey was born on December 6, 1937 in Dewitt, Arkansas. Marjorie was raised by her mother, Ardella Dew and surrounded by her brothers, Willie, and Jame. While growing up, Marjorie had a genuine desire to help people. Marjorie and her mother moved to Mississippi were she attended Coahoma High School in Clarkdale, Mississippi, and in 1956, Marjorie graduated. Shortly after high school, Marjorie moved to Chicago where she continued her education and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). Marjorie met Chester Montgomery, to this union, they would have a baby girl they would name, Carol. Marjorie would later meet Howard Martin and on June 6, 1964, they were joined in matrimony. Howard and Marjorie enjoyed dancing in the club together. To this union, Danielle, and Vernon were born. Her children would bring so much joy seeing that she was a very loving and nurturing person, she loved to share that love with her children. The children remember taking summer vacations in Mississippi with their grandmother; Marjorie would call this her break of peace. Later, she would was blessed with six grandchildren, Keastin, Thristin, Joevante, Amate, Atreus, Azureya; and one great granddaughter, Jontaya. One of the grandchildren remembers his grandmother telling him not to go to sleep in church, and when he looked up, grandma was standing against the wall while ushering fast asleep. By profession, Marjorie loved her work as an LPN. She worked for Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Illinois. She later moved her family to East Saint Louis, Illinois where she worked at Christian Welfare Hospital. She lived in St. Louis for 6 years, and decided moved to Denver, Colorado, where she worked and excelled at then Denver General Hospital (Now Denver Health Medical Center). Her co-worker and friend, Fatima, recall Marjorie as being dependable and kind. She would tell her, "if you want a job, be on-time." For 30 year, Marjorie was a member of the Jordan A.M.E. Chapel in Denver, Colorado. She was faithful and willing to work. She enjoyed ushering, and being a class leader. Her service to the Lord was extremely important to her. In her free time, Marjorie enjoyed shopping in furniture stores and department stores, cooking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Her favorite store was Dillards. Marjorie loved people and all who knew her, loved her. Marjorie Bailey departed this life into the embrace of the Lord on October 23, 2014 in Littleton, Colorado. She leaves to cherish her memory and to mourn her loss, her children, Carol (Gary) Halliburton, Danielle Martin, Vernon (Christina) Martin; six grandchildren, Keastin Halliburton, Thristin Halliburton, Joevante Martin, Amate Martin, Atreus Martin, Azureya Martin; and one great granddaughter, Jontaya Martin-Gardener; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
