Marilyn was a bit of a loner, but she had a special bond with two of her aunts. Mary (Sister) Owens and Evelyn Brown. They would all travel to Vegas, Lake Tahoe and Cripple Creek to gamble. Both preceded her in death. Marilyn also has two close friends Robert (Bob) Manner and Irma Jordan who joined family functions. Marilyn also had a special bond with her great niece LaFondra Johnson, her "Fonzie, who would take her up to the hills, out to lunch, and wherever else she needed. She also had a special relationship with her great-great nephew Dameon Briggs whom she affectionately nicknamed "Buddy." His birthday was the day after hers, and they would sit up and watch "Gunsmoke" together.
Marilyn loved her children, but she was overjoyed by her grandchildren. When her first grandson Bruce Jr. was born, she was ecstatic. She then raised six of her grandchildren; Marshaun, Tiara, Trinity, MarQueice, Tyauna, and MarVail. Pretty soon "Aunt Marilyn" became "Grandma" to all of her great great nieces and nephews because they heard her grandchildren saying it. She was proud to see her two grandsons Marshaun and Marqueice graduate college, and the pride she had in those two was immeasurable.
In 2010, Marilyn suffered a series of strokes and she became confined to a wheelchair. Marilyn fought with her sickness for nine long years. She was urrounded by her daughter Marlis, all of her grandchildren, her two sisters Marlis and Joyce, and her nieces and nephews when she was called home on October 16, 2019.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents, brothers Stanford Jr and Robert, her son Bruce, and her nephew Kenny. She leaves behind to cherish and hold her memory; two daughters: Marie Harris and Marlis Sneed, seven grandchildren, Bruce Jr., Marshaun( Kassie), Tiara, Trinity, MarQueice, Tyauna(Joe), and MarVail; nine great grandchildren; her two sisters Joyce Ortiz and Marlis Williams, her daughter-in-law, Jennifer, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
