Marilyn Cook

February 20, 1955 — August 26, 2013

Marilyn Fay Cook was born on February 20, 1955 in Lubbock, Texas to James and Beulah Cook. She was one of eight children born to this union. As a young child, Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her siblings Clara, Mattie, Diane, Darlene, Ronnie, Vanessa and JoAnn. Marilyn was educated in the Lubbock Independent School District and graduated from Estacado High School in 1972. During her high school years she ran on the track team and participated in a number of clubs and activities. She later attended San Angelo State College in San Angelo, Texas and received her Associate Degree in Education. After college, she met Otis Priestley. Affectionately called "Dooley" by all of her family, He lovingly and jokingly called her "Hooley." From this union they were blessed with one daughter, Mytika Ta'Rae. The family resided in Lubbock for 25 years, spending countless hours and many precious moments. In 2007, Marilyn relocated her family to Denver, Colorado to join her sisters Mattie and Darlene, and to support her daughter's dreams and goals of becoming a Psychotherapist. Marilyn was blessed to see this vision come to pass and witness her daughter graduate with honors in 2011, earning a double Masters and Doctorate Degree as well. Marilyn loved Sunday morning! As a child she learned the importance of having a relationship with the Lord and demonstrated her love and devotion to Him on a daily basis. In 2011, she joined King Baptist Church and was a faithful member. In her spare time, she loved watching movies, reading, listening to music, and indulging in a good home cook meal. A woman of fashion and style, she loved dressing up and smelling good. Marilyn had a smile that would light up any room and bring joy to those who were around her. Even in spite of all that she endured, she was one who never complained but continued to trust God in all things. Marilyn is preceded in death by both of her parents, two sisters and one brother. On August 26, 2013, the Lord called Marilyn Fay Cook from labor to her heavenly reward. Those left to celebrate her life and carry on her legacy include her husband, Otis Priestley of Lubbock, TX; one daughter, Dr. Mytika T. Robles; three grandchildren, De'Kevian Williams, Mayo Woodall and Latavia Hogues all of Denver, CO; sisters, Clara Turner of Lubbock, TX, Mattie Harris of Madison, AL, Vanessa (Rev. Virgil) Watson of Plano, TX, and Jo'Ann Coleman of Anchorage, AK; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many, many friends.
