Marilyn Marie Chandler was born on February 11, 1962 in Denver, Colorado to parents William H. Chandler and Elsie S. Chandler. She grew up in a loving home where she shared a memorable childhood with her older sisters, Donna Dixon and Cheryl Nevins, and older brother Myron Chandler.
Marilyn attended Denver Public Schools. As a little girl she was raised in the Church of God in Christ her foundation was built in church and she truly believed, loved, and knew God.
Marilyn was kind, loving, and a caring person, who loved to take care of people and mostly children. Her passion was caring for children, she worked in the childcare industry, she would always have someone's children even before she had her own. Her spirit was naturally nurturing, and she was selfless she would care for the world before she cared for herself, and she wouldn't let any child she knew go without anything. Most of her children's friends call her mama because every child she met she treated as her own and helped raise as her own. She took in people from all walks of life and always had an open door for anyone who needed help.
Marilyn was a bright spirit, who brought sunshine, laughter, and fun to any room she entered. One of her other passions was music, she loved to listen, sing, and dance; she would often have the children she babysat line up and put on a performance. She was all about having fun, she loved to host family game nights, and she was a great competitor, not too many people were able to beat her in most of the games, she was a winner.
One of the most cherished memories for her children and friends was her love for cooking. Marilyn could throw down in the kitchen and everything she cooked tasted like heaven on earth. She would get up and put big meals together for all to come and eat, when she cooked, the whole neighborhood would want a plate. She catered to the people and connected with people through their stomachs, when you ate her food you could feel the love seeping from it and we knew that was the true ingredient to her meals, love.
Marilyn was a strong independent woman who was resilient, she went through many trials and tribulations and always faced them head on and came out standing tall. She never gave up and was optimistic, the strength that seeped from her gave strength to many around her. She was bold and fierce and raised her children to be the same way to believe they can make it through anything and to never give up. She was truly a Phoenix if she fell in the ashes, she would eventually rise above all.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, William H. Chandler, Elsie S. Chandler. God called Marilyn home on January 15, 2020.
