Mandell Jones was born on May 13, 1927, in Longview, Texas to Ernest and Rosie Jones. He was the seventh child born into the family. He grew up working hard on the family farm. He attended school in Longview, and learned to work on cars and attended cooking school. His only living sibling, Lillie Faye McDowell lives in Aurora, Colorado. Mandell was a member of Oakhill Baptist Church in Longview, Texas where he sang in the gospel quartet. In 1945, at the end of World War II, he was drafted into the Army to fight for our country. He served the United Stated Army with honor and distinction. Mandell was injured while fighting and was honorably discharged. Mandell met the beautiful, Bessie M. King in Longview, Texas and the two united in holy matrimony. After their 3rd child was born, they moved to Denver, Colorado. They ultimately had four beautiful children: Nelda Joyce Jones, Gyndia Sue Jones, Mandell Jones, II, and Linda Annette Jones. His second marriage was to Ertis Finley, who brought 3 children into the relationship, and he loved them like his own. Mandell was a lot of fun. He enjoyed life, and would help anyone in need. He is remembered for how he taught himself to play the piano, wrote a number of songs, his love of boxing, and watching professional football games. Mandell worked at Fitzsimons Army Medical Base until shortly before it closed. His health started failing due to his injuries and he was not able to work anymore. Mandell Jones departed this life on October 21, 2015, in Aurora, Colorado. He leave to cherish his memory his loving wife, Ertis Jones; his children, Nelda Joyce Jones, Gyndia Sue Jones, Mandell Jones, II, Linda Annette Jones; his sister, Lillie Faye McDowell; his 5 grandchildren: Ahvedon Jones, Aaron Jones, Chantel Mitchel, Lorne Jones, Bianca Johnson; 2 great grandchildren: Talliyah and Tylan Nelson; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
