Mabel Lee Williams was born on January 27, 1934, in Minden, Louisiana to her parents, Dave Shyne and Fannie Mae Clark Shyne. She was the fourth child born in the family. She was raised surrounded by the love of her brothers, Curtis, Sammie, Otis, Kaiser, Dave, Jr., Robert and her sister, Effie. As a child, Mabel love to fish and climb trees. She also enjoyed picking walnuts and peanuts. She received her early education by attending Emily Griffith Opportunity School. In 1950, Mabel united in holy matrimony to Murphy Miles, Sr. They first met in Louisiana. A fond memory of the marriage was that of Murphy buying chocolate covered candy with a cherry filling, he buying her candy and flowers and a new dress so that they could go out on the town. To this union, Teresa Ann, Murphy, Jr., and Charles were born. On April 18, 1974, she wed Alton J. Williams. They met in Denver, Colorado. To his union, Carolyn and Gloria were born. "Big Mama" as she was affectionately called by her family loved holidays. She cooked full course meals that were the delight of everyone. She remembered birthdays, sent letters of encouragement and thank you cards and gifts. To her family she was the Queen of catalogs. She ordered what she needed and whatever family and friends needed. She raised her children determined to make their life better than hers. She was the best wife and mother that anyone could have. Later her grandchildren, Billy, Chantel, LaTasha and Charles, Jr. were an additional source of joy and pride in her life. Big Mama was stern but fair. She didn't have a problem disciplining but did it with love and out of love. She taught them to write their names and how to spell. She played games with them and of course, they all loved her cooking. When Mabel relocated to Colorado, she worked with the Catholic sisters at Marqery Reed Mayo Day Nursery. She later became a Home Health Care Aide for the City and County of Denver but her greatest joy would be found in being a Homemaker caring for her husband, children and home. A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Mabel was a member of Central Baptist Church. She loved the Lord and often told her family that she carried God in heart and believed in the power of prayer. The family remembers her having her personal time with the Lord as she planted flowers in her yard. It was during that time that she prayed and talked to the Lord. She did so until her health would no longer allow her to get on her knees. Mabel was a private woman, devoted wife and loving mother. She shared a special love and closeness with her only grandson, D'angelo. He was her Lump of Sugar and wouldn't allow anyone to get in her way when it came to D'angelo. Mabel was a people person. She never met a stranger. She lived her life as a shining example for her children and all who came in contact with her. She leaves a void that can never be replaced. To know Mabel was to love her. Mabel Lee Williams departed this life to the embrace of the Lord on May 26, 2014, in her home surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
