Lula Saffold

January 1, 1930 — February 17, 2022

Life’s Journey

The life of Lula Bell Holden began on January 1, 1930. She was born to her parents, William “Bill” Holden and Claudia Mae Florence Shaw in Lexington, Mississippi. She was raised with her brother, Henry (Sonny) Williams. Lula had another sister named Louise, who sadly passed away two months after birth.

Lula was born and raised in Mississippi where she was later joined in holy matrimony with Charlie Saffold Jr. To this union, 3 children were born, Ethel Mae, Catherine, and Mae Florence. The couple enjoyed 21 years together. Several years later, Lula moved to New, Orleans, Louisiana where she would meet her lifelong partner, Willie Tennessee. The couple enjoyed 45 happy years together.

Lula’s family relocated to Denver, Colorado for greater work opportunities. A true woman of faith, she became a member of Zion Baptist Church in 1989 under the past leadership of The late Pastor Wendell T. Liggins, and was a devout member of this congregation.

To know Lula was to love her. She was a very kind caring person who would help anyone in need. She met no strangers and gave all that she was able. Needless to say, she was truly a servant of God, and we are all better people because of her presence in our lives.

Those left to cherish her memory include her life long companion of 45 years, Willie Tennessee; daughters, Mae Florence of Denver, CO, Catherine (Earl) of LaPlace, LA, Ethel (Sam) of Kenner, LA; son, Edward (Renea) of Denver, CO; step daughters, Lelia and Tracie of New Orleans, LA; step son, Greg of McComb, MS; 15 grandchildren, Steven, Bridget Ann (Marvin), Valencia (Christ), Sabrina, Edward (Lawanda), Eric (Jackie) Earl, Nakeshia, Dana, Dequain, Isaiah, Jaheen, Janea, Jalane, Carlosita, and Kevin; 55 great grandchildren; 18 great great grandchildren; adopted family through God’s love, Dorothy Jackson, Skyla, Cedric, Shawn, Iasia, Charles Emmit “Skooter” and a host of relatives and friends.
