Lola Mae Hooks Harris was born on October 2, 1938 in Hooks, Texas to her parents, James T. Hooks and Sara Mae Franklin Kennedy. She was the first born to this union. Lola was raised surround by her brother, William, and her sisters, Novabell, and Georgiabell. When Lola was a child, she worked on her grandparents' farmland next to her uncles and aunts, and with the care of her siblings while her mother worked outside the home at the Army Ammunition. Lola's family remembers her in the kitchen with her mom cooking or off somewhere fishing or sitting by the river bank. She loved playing on the girls' basketball and softball teams. Lola completed her secondary education in the Hooks Independent School District. She worked diligently to excel in her learning. She went on to further her education and received her Certified Nursing Assistant certificate in 1970. Lola met Charles W. Harris in Hooks, Texas, and later, in 1960, the two were married. Their marriage was solid as a rock. To this union, six children were born, Johnnie, Judie, Willie, Leon, Deloris, and Randy. Lola was the proud mother, and an extremely delighted grandmother of 15, 2 step grandmother, and 5 great grandmother. By profession, Lola worked as a Certified Community Nurse for the Hayward Rehab and Post-Acute Nursing Medical Health Center. She was a dedicated and faithful employee and strived daily to provide excellent care. Lola believed in the Lord, and took her relationship with Him very serious. She was a member of the True Light Baptist Church and later attended Emmanuel Place of Refuge both in Oakland, California. She was the head mother under the ministry of Pastor Mary. She enjoyed volunteering her time to help the homeless though the Sacred Heart Parish Catholic Church, Volunteers of America, donating money, even opening her own home to those in need. Lola had a passion for assisting the less fortunate with clothes and food in the Five Points area. Lola's lifetime friends Glenda Nicholson, Olay Chapman, and Ethel Allen will all miss the time they shared. They remember her as being sweet, loveable, huggable, always smiling, playful, and a great homemaker that could "talk your ears off." Lola was loved and loved all she had the pleasure of knowing. Lola Mae Hooks Harris departed this life into the embrace of the Lord on November 11, 2014 in Englewood, Colorado. She leaves to cherish her memory and to mourn her loss, 6 children, 2 sisters, one brother, 15 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
