Lloyd Clay

July 13, 1926 — July 15, 2013

The pages of this book began for Lloyd Clay when he was born on July 13, 1926, in Cherry Valley, Arkansas to his parents, James Clay, Sr. and Modie Sanders Clay. He was raised surrounded by his brothers, James, Sam Henry, Thomas, Ernest and his sisters, Leona and Laura. As a child, he loved to fish, hunt and work in the family garden. A fond childhood memory was that of Lloyd walking to school with his kindergarten teacher and they walking pass other classmates home and they all walking together to school. In 1944, Lloyd enlisted in the United States Navy. He served during World War II and was stationed in the South Pacific. He served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged. In April of 1984, Lloyd united in holy matrimony to the former Alice Nick in Denver, Colorado. He was a faithful and loving husband who never removed his wedding ring. To this union, three children Roy, Reuben and Janie were born. They remember him taking them fishing and the family going to the drive in movie together. Later his grandchildren, Regina, Reuben, Roy, Nakisha, James and his great grandchildren, Tiera, Tionna, Curtis and Caleb were an additional source of joy and pride in his life. They lovingly called him "Grandpa" and fondly remember all of the happy and memorable moments they shared together. By profession, Lloyd was a Foreman with Denver Screen and Hardware. He was hard working and dedicated. He was a very task oriented person who performed his duties with a spirit of excellence. He was an excellent supervisor who never asked others to do anything that he first wouldn't do himself. Lloyd was an active member of the American Legion. He truly enjoyed the time shared with his fellow veterans. In his free time, he played the Powerball, Cash 5 Lottery. He was an avid Bronco fan and he also watched baseball and kept up with current events. His closest friends, Val, Emma, Zoanne, Jimmy, Toni and Nadine will miss the camaraderie they all shared together and the fact that he was true and trusted friend. He was starch supporter of President Barack Obama and proud to see him serve as this country's first African American President. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful man who leaves a void that can never be filled. To know Lloyd was to love him. He is preceded in death by a son, Rueben J. Nick, his parents, and all his siblings. Lloyd Clay departed this life on July 15, 2013, in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory include; his daughter, Janie M. Clay of Phoenix, AZ; a son, Roy A. Adkins of Denver; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a sister in law, Dorothy Clay of Wynne, AR and a host of other relatives and many friends.
