She was raised surrounded by her brothers, Willie, Washington, Lester, Melvin and her sisters, Elizabeth, Christine, Beverly, Eloise, Juliette and Juanita. As a child, Lela enjoyed going to her great grandmother's home; who was affectionately called "Mama." Lela received her formal education in Alabama, where she graduated from high school. She was later blessed with seven grandchildren, Omar, Keyana, LaTrisha, Latasha, Mykala, Michael, and Roland, They enjoyed spending holidays together, making cookies, donuts, shopping, and most of all her wake up Happy Birthday song done in her unique style. She was also blessed with 8 great grandchildren, who were an additional source of joy and pride in her life. Lela was a fun loving woman who enjoyed life and those she encircled. She was a Homemaker and took great pride in caring for her family. In her free time, she enjoyed card games, watching western movies and on occasion, a little dancing.
