Life’s Journey
Leezett Young Stewart
Leezett Young Stewart was born on May 3, 1943, in Birmingham, Alabama, to her parents, Charles Young and Alma Sauder Young. As a child, she enjoyed helping her father in the garden and helping her mother shuck fresh beans. Being an only child, she shared a special closeness with her parents.
Leezett received her early education by graduating from Western Olin High School. She furthered her education by attending Miles College, both located in Birmingham, Alabama. While in college, she majored in education with aspirations of becoming an Elementary School Teacher.
On September 1, 1962, Leezett married Marion E. Stewart. They first met in Birmingham. To this union, Anthony, Joilea, and Marion Jr. were born. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. They remember her being loving, kind, strong, and supportive. Marion preceded her in death. She was later blessed with five grandchildren, Maryon, Marcus, Brittany, Kylee, Trey, and one great-grandchild, McKenzie, who all were an additional source of joy and pride in her life. They fondly called her “GiGi” and remember all the happy and precious moments they shared.
By profession, Leezett was first a Homemaker who took pride in the care and nurturing of her family. She later became employed as a Payroll Technician for the Accounting and Finance Center on Lowry Air Force Base.
A woman of faith and belief in the Lord, Leezett was a member of Heritage Christian Center. She believed in the power of prayer and having the right relationship with the Lord. She had been a member for over twenty years.
Leezett was a fun-loving woman who enjoyed life and those she encircled. She enjoyed spending quality time with family in her free time, playing video games (especially Candy Crush and Bejeweled.) Her closest friend, Ann May, whom she has been friends with for over 73 years, and other friends Marion Pierre and Ann McCoy, will all miss the comraderies they shared together, her friendliness, kindness, and big heart. She will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful woman. To know Leezett was to love her.
Leezett Young Stewart departed this life on November 10, 2021, in Parker, Colorado. Those left to cherish her memory and mourn her loss include her three children, Anthony L. (Kerry) Stewart, Marion (Tracy) Stewart, Jr., and Joilea Dickens; five grandchildren, Maryon D. Stewart, Marcus, A. Stewart, Brittany S. Stewart, Kylee S. Stewart, and Trey R. Stewart; one great-grandchild, McKenzie S. Stewart; and a host of other relatives and many friends.
