LaVonne Gilbert was born June 14, 1938 to Annie and Harry Scott, she was the sixth of eleven children. LaVonne attended Retreat Park from elementary through high school, going on to graduate as the only African American female in her class of eight.
Her caring nature and love for reading started at a young age. LaVonne could often be found reading to her niece Elaine Tidmore and nephew Alfred (Sonny) Tidmore while growing up. Later in life she would volunteer to read at her great-grandchildren's school. Her caring nature continued after high school through her work as a nurse's aide at the VA and Ridge Nursing Home.
LaVonne would eventually change careers going on to work for Mountain Bell, Air Reserve Personnel Center doing data entry. Finally, retiring from the Colorado Department of Labor and Unemployment Division, after over 15 years of service.
After retirement, LaVonne, diligently pursued her passion for family history by being part of a genealogy group at the Ford Warren Library, researching archives from Caldwell Blaire Library and The National archives in Utah, amongst other resources. Through her research she discovered that she was a descendent of Dred Scott a former slave who fought for his freedom and that of his wife.
Having a God-fearing mother, God was always a part of LaVonne's life. LaVonne was baptized at the age of fifteen and attended various churches in the Denver Metro area. As a church member, she would serve as an usher and a choir member. LaVonne, continued helping in the community by volunteering to help children read and helping at food banks. She also took pleasure in "Junkin'," finding treasures at second-hand stores. She also had a love for gardening, she could grow almost anything except tomatoes with her green thumb. At the age of 50 she learned to swim and took classes to learn how to speak Spanish

LaVonne is survived by her children: Jody Gilbert, Collette Grays, Risa Murray, Katherine (Kathy) Gilbert; her niece and nephew: Elaine Tidmore and Alfred (Sonny) Tidmore ; and her great-nephew Henry Kuykendoll, her grandchildren: Tywanda Grays, Tiffany Grays, Laurena Champine, E'olyone Gilbert (A-O), Stephanie Murray, Matthew Murray, Jonathan Murray , Andrew Murray, Josiah Murray, Jinnelle Burvick-Gilbert, Celeste Burvick-Gilbert; 14 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephewsLaVonne Gilbert was born June 14, 1938 to Annie and Harry Scott, she was the sixth of eleven children. LaVonne attended Retreat Park from elementary through high school, going on to graduate as the only African American female in her class of eight.
Her caring nature and love for reading started at a young age. LaVonne could often be found reading to her niece Elaine Tidmore and nephew Alfred (Sonny) Tidmore while growing up. Later in life she would volunteer to read at her great-grandchildren's school. Her caring nature continued after high school through her work as a nurse's aide at the VA and Ridge Nursing Home.
LaVonne would eventually change careers going on to work for Mountain Bell, Air Reserve Personnel Center doing data entry. Finally, retiring from the Colorado Department of Labor and Unemployment Division, after over 15 years of service.
After retirement, LaVonne, diligently pursued her passion for family history by being part of a genealogy group at the Ford Warren Library, researching archives from Caldwell Blaire Library and The National archives in Utah, amongst other resources. Through her research she discovered that she was a descendent of Dred Scott a former slave who fought for his freedom and that of his wife.
Having a God-fearing mother, God was always a part of LaVonne's life. LaVonne was baptized at the age of fifteen and attended various churches in the Denver Metro area. As a church member, she would serve as an usher and a choir member. LaVonne, continued helping in the community by volunteering to help children read and helping at food banks. She also took pleasure in "Junkin'," finding treasures at second-hand stores. She also had a love for gardening, she could grow almost anything except tomatoes with her green thumb. At the age of 50 she learned to swim and took classes to learn how to speak Spanish
LaVonne was married seventeen years to Worthy T. Gilbert, from this union came Jody, Collette, Risa and Kathy. Her love for her family came naturally, it showed through her actions. She always kept it real. While you may not like what she had to say, she always spoke the truth out of love for her family. When needed by her family she was always supportive and willing to step in.
LaVonne was blessed in this life, she is preceded in death by her Father Harry A. Scott, mother- Annie Scott siblings, Winifred Scott-Woods, Harry Scott Jr., William (Bill) Scott, Elsie Mae Scott-Moore, Clyde Scott, Glenora Scott-Ray, Robert (Bobby) Scott, and Barbara (Babs) Scott. Also, grandsons Marcellous Grays, Marcus Champine.
