LaVerne Glenn was the third child born to L.V. and Vicie Jackson in Mansfield, Louisiana on October 31, 1937. At the age of 10, she moved to Denver, CO with her family. She attended Denver Public Schools, finishing at Manuel High School. Shortly after her arrival in Denver, she began attending Union Baptist Church. LaVerne served in many different capacities. As a youth, she sang in the choir and was the Church Secretary. Later, she was a Deaconess, Youth Program Chairwoman, Choir Member, fundraiser, member and President of the Nurses Guild at Union Baptist Church along with her current Pastor, Reverend Dr. Gregory Johnson, who recognized her for 64 years of service. LaVerne was joined in marriage to Reverend Edgar L. Glenn in 1955, a union which lasted twenty years. From this union, three daughters, Selena, Carmen, and Joyce were born. She is remembered as being a devoted mother and grandmother. Through her words and example, she encouraged spiritual development, academic achievement, and giving more than is asked of you. She created lasting memories for her grandchildren with the many sleepovers and backyard parties she hosted. "Gi Gi" as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren will be missed. Laverne's legacy is her compassion for others. She was the center of her extended family. She was instrumental in bringing the Jackson family back together with the Cato family. Uniting cousins, aunts and uncles, who had migrated from Louisiana but due to family rift had gone in separate ways. She is the one who took her brother into her home on several occasions, when he was struggling with an illness. She is the one who took both of her parents into her home and cared for them until the Lord called them home. She wrote to the ones in prison when others had forsaken them. She is the aunt that nieces and nephews called because they knew she cared and could encourage them. She carried on the tradition of family picnics, when her parents could no longer do so. She maintained the family address book so we could call her to get in touch with others. She exhibited her love for others as a teenager when she lovingly cared for her first nephew, Hebert Mason; whom she calls her first child. It was not just her family, but she reached out to neighbors and coworkers as well. She was not the one up front making speeches; she was the one in the background making sure everything got done. We will miss our angel, flower, and gentle spirit. She is preceded in death by her parents, L.V. and Vicie Jackson; her brother, Benjamin Jackson; and her sister, LaVada Searcy. In Spirit, LaVerne will continue to bring others to the Throne of the Lord by way of her three daughters, Selena R. Ramey, Carmen R. Alexander and Joyce L. Glenn Greer (Reverend Julius); also surviving LaVerne are her sisters, Dorothy Wilkins (Bill), Pine Bluff, AR and Irma Boone-Wray (William), Good Year, AZ; LaVerne was a tremendously loving and caring grandmother, her loving ways will continue in her 12 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. LaVerne's Spirit will also live on in her best friend, Cecelia Dennis (Wallace); sister in Love, Alberta Thornton; cousin, Marion Robinson; daughters-In-Love, Hope Glenn Parker and Sharon Hunter (Rodrick); her dear neighbors, The Margie Steger Family, The Tate Family, and The Bobbie Horton Family and a host of other relatives and many friends.
