LaMar Foster was born on February 28, 1957, in Shreveport, Louisiana to his parents, Ollie Lynn Washington and Lucille Gray Foster. The family relocated to Denver, Colorado and LaMar completed his early education, when he graduated from Manual High School. He met Joy Evans in Denver. They first met while he was working at Ace Supermarket. To this union, two beautiful children, Alisha and Derrick were born. They remember their father as loving and supportive. Whenever they visited him at Ace Supermarket, they would always ask him "Dad, can you put this on your bill? his response was always, "I will see what I could do" and he always came through. He and Joy remained close remains over the years. He later met Phyllis Jackson and they were partners for many years. LaMar was later blessed with six grandchildren, Audric, Takel, Diamond, Blessyn, Derrick, I'Lani and his great grandson, Audric, Jr. who were an additional source of joy and pride in his life.
