Kevin William Outen (Truck) was a Minister at Joy Tabernacle Holiness Church under the leadership of Pastor’s Jonathan and Coquese Renfroe. He served that church as a Minister for over 15 years, conducting bible study, prayer sessions and performing street ministry.
He was born in Newark, New Jersey and lived there until the age of 11. He lived in an all-black community where black history and culture was the norm. It was there that his foundation for art was established.
He moved to Columbia, South Carolina and lived there for his teenage years and some of his adult life. His friends in Columbia affectionately called him Truck (a nick-name he gave himself). He graduated from Keenan High School. During his high school years, he was a bus driver for special needs kids; was on the wrestling team and played drums on the Marching Band.
He also added a middle name William to honor his God-parents William and Louise Harris of Atlantic City, NJ. He decided to enter the service after high school. He made one of the highest scores on the Naval exam and served his country for 4 years.
After his service, he married and divorced Diane Keith. He conceived a daughter Michelle Suber (mother Zelma Suber). He also pursued barbering and tailoring (making suits for large men).
Kevin was raised in a God-fearing family and attended church from the time he was born until his death. He became troubled and strayed from the church until he received the call from God to preach. Kevin’s photographic memory allowed him the gift of scripture. He could quote any scripture from memory and tell you chapter and verse. His calling allowed him the understanding of the scripture. He sought the word diligently. He started his ministerial journey with Bishop Freeman in Columbia, SC. He allowed several ministers thereafter to mentor him and attended a Bible College off and on. On his journey for rediscovery, he wound up in Lakewood Colorado where he lived until his death.
He is remembered by his friends and family as always being hopeful and prayerful.
He was preceded in death by his father Alfred (Pete) Outen on January 4th, 2001.
He is survived by his daughter Michelle Suber, his two grandsons Dallas Dean and Maddox Dean, his mother Barabara Smith Outen. his older brother Alfred Outen Jr, his baby sister Felicia Rene Outen Lybrand (William Lybrand), his nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
