Kent Patrick Sharp was born on July 23, 1958, in Kanas City, Missouri to his parents, Ella Brown (Hysaw) and Willie Sharp. He was the third of six children born unto the family. Kent and his family relocated to Denver, Colorado in 1968. Kent grew up on Elm Street in Denver’s Park Hill area, where he met childhood friends, Allen Carter, Claberine Harvey, William Hollowell, and a host of other dear friends and neighbors. He attended Denver East High School, where he often recounted the time when he and his friends jumped out of the second story window when skipping class. Kent was a joy to be around; his friends and family lovingly and jokingly called him by many nicknames growing up such as, “Z-Jack,” “Catfish,” “Jack-Kent Cadillac,” “Eagle Eyed Kent,” and “Moody Blues,” just to name a few. In August of 1975, Kent became the proud father of his firstborn child, Robert Keith Ladd aka “Bob Boy.” In May of 1983, he met the love of his life, Charlotte Jones at the Holly Shopping Center in Denver. On their first date, Kent took Charlotte to the movies and they ran out of gas, the two of them ended the date by walking home together. Kent and Charlotte were married on July 28, 1989, with this marriage Kent became the father of, Derrick Jones, and a year later their daughter, Shauntaye was born to this union. Through it all, Kent was a loving father and husband, and he would always tell them, “If I have it, you have it too.” He was just that type of loving and caring man. He loved playing basketball at Cherry Park with his children. He told them they would never block his left-handed jump shot. Later, Kent’s grandchildren were his motivation, they brought out the best in him. He loved taking them to McDonalds for ice-cream and giving them money when he had extra. They loved their “Paw-Paw” dearly. Over the years Kent had various jobs doing construction and roofing. He loved doing a mechanic’s job as he would work on bicycles and cars. He also enjoyed bike riding, fishing, and watching the Denver Bronco’s play, win or lose. He could build anything you could imagine bikes, tables, fishing poles, even homemade pipes, and many other things; he was a true craftsman. Kent enjoyed family BBQ’s and birthdays. Time with family and friends is what Kent cherished most of all, no matter the occasion. Kent was preceded in death by his father, Willie Sharp. Kent Patrick Sharp departed this life on May 21, 2018 in Denver, Colorado.
