Katrina Michelle Sherman was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, on February 9, 1969 to her parents, James Douglas Thomas and Diane Sherman. Katrina was the first of three children, she had the privilege of being raised surrounded by her sister, Janet and her brother, Demond. Katrina graduated from Tech Memorial (Central) High School, in Erie, Pennsylvania with the class of 1987. In 1989, she graduated from J. H. Thompson Hair Design Academy, also in Erie, where she received her certification in Cosmetology. In 2000, Katrina moved to Denver Colorado with her father. Katrina became a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Community Baptist Church. Katrina became involved in the choir, where she would sing unto the Lord. Katrina volunteered to help anytime at the church. Katrina exhibited strength and endurance. Her roots were strong and deep. She watered herself with the Word of God, so she could be protective of others and their concerns. She would invite others to come in from the storm and rest under her branches of shade or shelter. Those of us who knew Katrina well saw her power as we marveled at how she used it graciously and judiciously. Katrina was employed by The Road Called STRATE, as the Co-Director. She was hardworking, dependable, and performed her duties with precision and accuracy. She enjoyed helping many of the ex-offenders that came to the Road Called STRATE, completing their resumes, and contacting employers to support job referrals. She was truly a team player and very detailed with her work. She had also been employed by King Soopers for the last two years working as a cashier. She was dedicated to her job. Her co-workers would say; she had a quiet spirit, dependable and hardworking, and enjoyed her job. She lived her life quiet and gracefully. Quiet strength! Katrina was a quiet woman, a thoughtful listener, and a tireless worker. She listened to all sides before making decisions that would benefit the whole, not just one or two parts. She would help before she was asked. If something needed to be done, Katrina would handle it, and handle it with excellence. Katrina understood that she was not compromising even when she demonstrated flexibility, adaptability, and stability. She learned early to bend and not break. Katrina loved to eat nice hearty plates. She enjoyed being around her family and friends, watching football, movies, and dancing. She loved traveling and cruising the oceans. She made peace with life instead of fighting it. Katrina lived the way she did because she "Let go, and Let God." Katrina thrived in the most challenging situations. She could look beyond the anger, fear, and disappointment that confronted her as a human being, and find solutions and peace. Stable and firm, Katrina stood her ground in the face of adversity. Katrina had a sense of humor; she recognized the beauty in a sunset or daybreak. She had fun, and was not boisterous. She was uncompromisingly loyal. More than anything, Katrina loved! She loved her God, the head of her life. She loved her family: her father, her siblings, and her extended family. "She let us know that she loved, honored, and appreciated us." What a legacy she leaves. "We are so blessed that Katrina chose us to be her family." Though our hearts grieve, though we mourn, though we wish we had just a few more days, hours, and moments with her, we know that... "Weeping may endure for a night, but joy surely comes in the morning!" Katrina was preceded in death by her mother, Dianne Sherman; her brother, Frank Sherman; her grandparents, James "Fiz" Thomas, Ersilia Thomas, Levi Sherman and Mae Sherman. At the age of 46, Katrina transitioned to be with the Lord on Friday January 29, 2016, in Denver, Colorado.
