Katherine “Kathy” Young was born on November 6, 1940 to Idella Turner and David Scott. Katherine and her siblings, James, Beecher Calvin, Oscar, Earl, Marlean, Christyne, Arberdella, Brenda and Mentry Lee were raised in Holly Grove, Arkansas. Reminiscent of her childhood, her family recalls that she enjoyed riding her father’s tractor on the farm. She always aimed to be helpful to her parents.
Katherine met and married James Scott, and to this union, David and Regina were born. This marriage was later resolved.
She later met a lovely gentlemen named James E. Young through her aunt Ethel, and a week later; on June 8, 1980 they were joined in holy matrimony. James was a father figure to David and Regina and cared for them as if they were his own children. They were blessed with each other’s presence for 21 years.
Katherine took on additional roles beyond raising her family. She worked as a Security Guard for Advantage Security and was also an Elevator Operator at one point.
To know Katherine was to love her presence. She had an amazing smile and kind heart A woman of God, she devoted herself to the church, and instilled these values with those she encircled. She was loving, caring and very giving. She was never concerned with what she had but rather focused on what she could bless others with.
In her free time, Katherine enjoyed playing cards, especially Tonk and Pokeno, as well as hanging out with her cousins, Artie Campbell and Ernest Campbell. Most importantly, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren
She is preceded in death by her parents, Idella Hurd and David Scott; her brother, Beecher Calvin Hurd Jr.; and sister, Mentry Lee Hurd.
Katherine Young passed away into the embrace of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on September 2, 2022. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, David Scott and Regina Scott; grandchildren, Brianna Reynolds, David Allen Scott, Angela Scott, and Alonso Scott Jr.; great-grandchildren, Isaiah Reynolds, Ervin Jame Amadeus, and Nova Kador Reynolds; aunt, Ethel Bryant, nieces, cousins, Gloria Thomas, and Alexis Richardson.
