The Life and Legacy of Justin Ashanti McKinney Those we love will always remain with us; for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone; those we love can never be more than a thought apart; for as long as there is memory, they’ll live on in our heart. Justin Ashanti McKinney was born on March 13, 1996 in Denver, Colorado to his parents Ernest and Karen. Justin was the second of 2 children born to this union. Justin was a happy baby with a smile the could light up any room. Justin was surrounded by his oldest brother Joseph, and his younger brothers, Braelyn Jailen, Xavier and Jayden. Through this bond of brotherhood, Justin and his brothers shared in a lifetime of memories full of fun, laughter, mischief and an abundance of love. Justin was a very intelligent young man with a curiosity for exploring and learning new things. He received his formal education in Denver, Colorado where he attended Knight Academy, Omar D. Blair, and graduated from P.U.S.H. Academy. Justin was the proud and loving father of Shilori, Zavah and Julian. Justin loved them more than anything and would do anything for them. Justin’s children were a tremendous source of joy and pride in his life. His face lit up every time he saw them or even spoke about them. Although he was a young father, Justin exemplified an unbelievable level of unconditional love for each of his children, and he cherished every moment he was blessed to share with them. As the days grew, Justin’s children became his true passion and sole purpose in striving to be the very best that he could to make them proud. By profession, Justin was employed by Big O Tire Company, but he had quite the entrepreneurial spirit. Justin was hard working, dedicated and performed all duties with a spirit of pride and excellence. When his work day ended, his personal business prowess activated. Justin was a young man full of charisma, spunk, drive and wisdom, always ready to take on a challenge and ultimately develop a winning business plan to become his own boss. Justin was a young man of faith and belief in God. As a child, he was a member of his first church, Heritage Christian Center in Denver, Colorado where he accepted the Lord into his life and was baptized. Through his teen years and until his passing, Justin was a member of The Potter’s House of Denver. Throughout his spiritual walk, regardless of the hardships he may have faced, Justin never lost his faith and walked daily with the Lord. Justin was a fun, loving, charming, caring, humorous, generous, compassionate, head strong, extremely handsome, young man with an abounding, fresh style of his own. In his free time Justin enjoyed skateboarding, playing basketball, rapping and listening to music. To know Justin was to love him. Justin wanted to be remembered as a loving and dedicated son, brother and father. Justin will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. Justin was preceded in death by his brother, Jeremiah McKinney, great uncles, Thomas McKinney, Reuben Kennedy, Leonard Kennedy, Maryland Andrews and Robert Joy; grandmother, Katherine Joy-Allen; great aunts Mae Kennedy and Maryann Andrews; great grandparents Reuben and Inez Kennedy Sr and Queenie Andrews; great great grandparents Katerine and Levi Joy, Sieglinde and Joe Baucom, and Ernestine C. Jones and Orlo H. Allen. Justin Ashanti McKinney departed this life to the loving embrace of the Lord on April 30, 2018 in Denver, Colorado. He leaves to cherish his memory His Father, Ernest (Kimberly) McKinney, Jr.; His Mother, Karen (Marcus) Ferrell; His children, Shilori McKinney, Zavah McKinney, and Julian McKinney; His brothers, Joseph McKinney, Braelin L. McKinney, Jailen McKinney, and Jayden McKinney, and Xavier Ferrell; fraternal grandfather, Ernest McKinney Sr.; maternal grandfather and grandmother, Meredith and Wilma Andrews; fraternal Great-Grandmother, Katheryne McKinney; aunts, Janet (Isacc) Johnson, Patricia Cain-Donnelly, Sieglinde (Darnell) Vasquez, Lynette McKinney and Melitta Joy-Riley; uncles, James Smith and Mathew Jackson; great aunts, Deborah (Laurence) Tarver, Carla (Lou Thomas), and Kathy Johnson; great uncle Henry (Nancy) Cannady; a host of cousins, other relatives and many, many friends.
