Julian “Pat” Efferson

Julian Efferson affectionately called “Pat” by family and friends was born on January 28, 1938, in Sumter, South Carolina to his parents, Junior Efferson and Mary Richardson Efferson. The family relocated to West Virginia, when Julian was young. He worked alongside his grandmother, Rintha Richardson. He received his formal education by attending Jean Street Elementary School from 1943-1949. He graduated from Excelsior High School in 1955. He furthered his education by attending West Virginia State College, while there, he was a member of the ROTC Squad, the Pershing Rifle team, and a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity. During this time, he met, Annie Raye Heard, the couple, relocated to New York City, where they were married. They came to Denver, Colorado by train. From this union, 3 daughters, Deborah, Sharnell, and Darzelle were born. He was a loving and devoted father, who took great pride in the care and nurture of his family. He continued his education and earned a bachelor’s degree for Metro State College in Denver.
Julian later married, the former, Theresa Williams on September 4, 1982. They first met in Denver. With this union, he became the stepfather of Lamar and Marsha. Theresa fondly remembers him as being calm and caring. He was never one to start confusion but always willing to offer a scripture with, “The case is closed.” They enjoyed traveling with Hawaii being their favorite destination. He loved the beauty of the water and being in nature. At the time of his passing, they had been married for forty-two years.
Julian began working for the Colorado Sheep Processing Plant. He later became employed by the newly opened Hilton Hotel in 1960. In that same year, he became employed by Samsonite Luggage Company. He remained with the company from July of 1960, until he retired in October of 1997. Julian was a hardworking, dependable man, who was always willing to lend a hand to his fellow-coworkers, and the management team. At the time of his passing, he was a supervisor. After retiring, he started working for the Denver Public Schools.as a Paraprofessional, working with children with special needs. He did so for another thirteen years. He also owned a landscaping company and did so for several additional years.
Julian was the proud grandfather of Kanna, Erica, Natasha, Patrick, Latasia, Gabrielle, and Kamia; he has sixteen great grandchildren; and four great grandchildren, all of whom, were an additional source of oynd pride in his life.
A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Julian was an active member of the Church of Christ. He was a willing member and church leader. He first became a member of Park East Church of Christ in 1970. This was followed by becoming a member Higher Ground Church of Christ. He believed in the gospel of spreading the word of God to all mankind and truly enjoyed the fellowship shared with his church family.
Julian was a fun-loving man, who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed the quality time spent with family and friends. He loved playing bid whiz, and dominoes. He will be missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known this kind and wonderful Christian man. To know “Pat” was to love him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Junior and Mary Efferson; a sister, Mary Louise Efferson; and 2 grandsons, Dwayne Curry, Tamoi Elliott.
Julian “Pat” Efferson departed this life to the embrace of the Lord, on December 6, 2024, in his home in Denver, Colorado. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his loving and devoted wife, Theresa E. Efferson;4 daughters, Deborah A. Efferson, Sharnell Efferson (Everette Bowen), Darzelle L. Efferson, and Marsha T. Elliott; 1 son, Tulus Lamar (Winnie) Elliott; 2 sisters, Valerie L. (Kenneth) Phelps, Zenobia Efferson; 3 brothers, Johnny (Agatha) Efferson, James (Debra) Efferson, and Henry Efferson; 7 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative; long time family friend, Jo Grace, Coker, and many other friends.
