Joyce Wallace

July 6, 1941 — February 26, 2017

Joyce Annette Wallace was born on July 6, 1941, in Neosho, Missouri, to her parents, Melvin Smith, and Geneva Williams. She was the only child born to this union. Growing up with no siblings, she spent lots of time with her uncles, and friends. As a child, Joyce enjoyed spending her summers at the Silver Springs Park doing many activities. Joyce completed her formal education in Springfield, Missouri at Central High School. One of Joyce's greatest joys was her family. She was the proud mother of Joyce, "her name sake." While in Springfield, Missouri, Joyce met and later married, George E. Young. To this union, three children were born, Loretta, Gertrude, and George, Jr. In Saint Joseph, Missouri, she met Robert Farmer. They would later marry, and to this union, Pamela K., Serena E., Fredrick L., and Robert L. entered this life. Joyce was proud mother, and she loved all of her children. In 1972, Harold Wallace and Joyce joined together in holy matrimony. They would share no children. Joyce was later blessed with 19 grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren. They added even more joy to Joyce's life. Joyce loved the Lord with all of her heart. While in St. Joseph, Missouri, she attended Church of Christ. By profession, Joyce worked in the healthcare industry as a Dietary Aide. She was employed by Saint Joseph State Hospital in Missouri, and when she moved to Denver, she continued her service at the Villages at Lowry Home Health. Joyce was known to be a hard worker dedicated to the job, and able to get along with her co-workers. She always operated in the spirit of excellence. Joyce enjoyed spending time with her family; looking forward to holidays and birthday, so she could get together to celebrate. In her spare time, Joyce liked to play cards, listening to music, mostly the Blues. She also enjoyed going to the casino's to play the slot machines. Joyce was a kind and compassionate person who tried to help any way she could. Most of the kids and adults in the neighborhood would lovingly call her, "Grandma," even though they were unrelated, she didn't mind at all. Joyce's friends, Sheila Pasley, and Anna Mae Lofton will miss the time they shared and the support they gave to one another. Joyce's love, laugh, care, open arms, and optimism will greatly be missed by all who were blessed to know her. Joyce was preceded in death by her son, George Young, Jr.; her daughter, Serena Farmer; her mother, Geneva Williams, and her father, Melvin Smith. Joyce departed this life into the embrace of the Lord on February 26, 2017, at her home in Aurora, Colorado. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Joyce Alexander (Lavaraselle) Glasper, Lakewood, CO, Gertrude Young, Denver, CO, Loretta Young Goss, Little Rock, AR, Pamela (Kevin) Charleston, Aurora, CO, Fredric (Rhonda) Farmer, Kansas City, MO, Robert Farmer, Jr., St. Joseph, MO; 19 grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
