Jot Matheny was born on March 25, 1940, to his loving parents, Frank Matheny and Iola Matheny in Beland, Oklahoma. He was the nineth of fourteen children born in the family. Jot had eleven brothers and three sisters. Known as “Cool Jot”, “Jayco Jot”, and “Po Jady”, he always had a way of making people smile and feel good.
Jot received his early education by attending the Oklahoma Public School System. He graduated from Manual Training School in Muskogee, Oklahoma. By profession, Jot was a Carpenter with Tops Manufacturing for many years, where his co-workers loved and enjoyed working with him.
Jot met and fell in love with Evelyn M. Hill. They were married on January 14, 1963. At the time of his passing, they were blessed to celebrate 59 years of marriage. To this loving union, two beautiful daughters, Carla and Bonita were born. They were the joy of his life. He was later blessed with two granddaughters, Sparkle and Cheri, who were an additional source of joy and pride in his life. Jot loved his family and enjoyed nothing more than them being together.
God was always first in Jot’s life; he loved the Lord. He instilled the importance of having the Lord in the lives of his children. Jot was a faithful member of King Baptist Church in Denver, Colorado. He had been a member for over 40 years. He was a faithful member of the Men’s Choir. He remained loyal to the body of Christ until his death.
Jot LOVED the Denver Broncos and spent many years collecting Bronco memorabilia for his Bronco man cave. In his spare time, He loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, family, friends. He enjoyed dancing, playing cards, dominos, video games, and board games.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Iola Matheny; ten brothers, Willie, Wilbert, Frank, Raymond, Jewell, Billy, Ray, Tony, and Bobby Matheny; one stepsister, Savannah Harnsberry.
On May 6, 2022, at 10:29pm in Denver, Colorado, Jot Matheny was welcomed home by his Heavenly Father at the age of 82. Those left to cherish his memory and mourn his loss include his devoted wife, Evelyn Matheny or Aurora, CO; 2 beloved daughters, Carla (Derrick) Drisdel of Los Angeles, CA and Bonita Matheny Wilder of Colorado Springs, CO; 1 brother, Roy (Janette) Matheny of Aurora, CO; 2 sisters, Mary Ann Matheny of Las Vegas, NV and Ola Mae (Greg) Treco of Centennial, CO; 2 grandchildren, Sparkle Lindsay of Colorado Springs, CO and Cheri Lindsay of Ada, OK; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
Jot will ALWAYS be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
