Joseph Simmons, Jr.

March 22, 1954 — April 23, 2013

The life of Joseph Simmons, Jr. began when he blessed his parents, Joseph Simmons, Sr. and Gertrude Franklin Simmons with his birth in Denver, Colorado. He was the third child born in the family. He was raised surrounded by his brothers, Kenneth, Gary and his sister, Gail. Growing up in Denver, he and his brother, Kenny were extremely close. The family then starting calling him "Baby Joe" and as he got older it went to "Papa Joe." Joseph received his formal education in Denver, where he graduated from East High School. In 1972, Joseph enlisted in the United States Navy. While in the Navy, he was stationed in Japan and California. He served with honor and distinction and was honorably discharged. Joseph was the proud father of a son, named Kyle J. Reynolds. He was later blessed with two grandsons, Isaiah and Kyle, Jr. The family shared many happy and precious memories together. Joseph was employed in several different types of jobs. He worked several years for Burlington Northern Railroad. Everywhere he worked, he was remembered as being hard working , easy going and dedicated. He performed all assigned duties with a spirit of excellence. A man of faith and belief in the Lord, Joseph accepted the Lord as his personal savior at a very early age. He was baptized at Holy Spirit Baptist Church. He and Penny attended Salem Missionary Baptist Church along with his mother. He worshipped with the church for almost fifteen years. Joseph was a fun loving man who enjoyed life and those he encircled. In his free time, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and hanging out with family and friends. His closest friends, Leon Wilson, Leroy Johnson, Chester Brooks, his brother, Gary and his longtime companion and friend, Penny Collins will miss the many happy moments they all shared together.
