Jose Hernandez

December 25, 2008 — August 10, 2022

Aurora, Colorado

Jose Attzael Hernandez was born on December 25, 2008, in Denver, Colorado to his parents James Alejandro Mergil and Damaris Hernandez Flores.  Jose was raised by his Mom until he was toddler age.  The remaining years Jose and his brothers were raised by their maternal grandmother Margarita.  Jose also had the unique privilege of growing up in the household with his Uncles who also provided care, love and fatherly support for their nephews. Jose was raised in Aurora, Colorado where he went to Virginia Court Elementary School and Aurora Hills Middle School.  One of Jose’s teachers said, “His joy spread everywhere and he loved to learn.”  His favorite subject was math because he loved working with numbers.  Jose also loved helping his peers in the classroom.  His dream was to finish school and become a business owner in his community.  He dreamed of buying his Mom a big house and a fast car.

At home you could find Jose on his skateboard or playing video games with his younger brothers Miguel and Cristian.  The three loved going on outdoor adventures as a family.  On weekends you could find the family at The Wheel skate park in Aurora or going on hikes with the family in the mountains.  His favorite place to go in the mountains was Lookout Mountain because he could see the city.  Those close to Jose also know him as a prankster, he loved to make others laugh.  Sometimes scaring someone when they were not expecting it.

Jose created a very personal relationship with each member of his family.  He was a helpful grandson always willing to go to the store with his grandmother.  On weekends you could find Jose riding in the car with his Uncle Abisaid running errands or going for a long drive.  Just like his Uncle Carlos Jose shared a love of cars, the two would go to car meets together.  Jose also enjoyed the private times he spent with his Aunt Adriana.  Because he was the oldest grandson, Jose felt a certain responsibility to help and play with his little cousins.  Just as with family Jose created forever bonds with the close friends in his circle.  Outside of family Jose spent the rest of his time with his best friend Juan.  The two perfected their skateboarding after school and during weekends.

Jose was an incredible young man that was going to do big things in his life.  His life abruptly ended on August 10, 2022.  Instead of focusing on the tragedy of Jose’s end of life the family chooses to celebrate and focus on the miracle of life they know as Jose.  In 13 years Jose made an impact on the heart of every single person he touched.  Jose is survived by his mother Damaris Hernandez Flores, his maternal grandmother Margarita Velasquez Flores(Paulo), two brothers Miguel Hernandez, Cristian Hernandez, Aunt Adriana Hernandez Flores, Uncle Abisaid Hernandez Flores, Uncle Carlos Hernandez Flores(Nallely) along with a host of relatives and close friends
