Johnny Copeland was born on August 28, 1936, in Grangerville, GA to Johnny and Pearl Copeland. He was the fourth child and the only male on both sides of the family, growing up with four sisters. He spent numerous hours with his father; who never called him "Johnny" but affectionately referred to him as "Partner." He attended grade school in Gardi, GA. and high school in Jesup, GA. His parents later moved to Jacksonville, FL where Johnny volunteered to join the Airforce where he honorably served his country until his honorable discharge in 1958.
In 1964 he moved to Denver, CO. along with his sister Olivia. In 1966, he met and married Bernice Cunningham. He was employed with Gates Rubber Company until 1969 when he along with his wife Bernice purchased Parkhill Liquor Store. The two of them later purchased The Parkhill Shopping Center. He became very well known in the Denver Community, and he never hesitated to help others. He was known for giving many in the community a job at one of his businesses. He started a newspaper called "The Parkhill Advertiser" from 1984-1988, and the great community event "The August Fest" on his large lot of the Parkhill Shopping Center.
Johnny was known for being a sharp dresser. Johnny loved his many pairs of cowboy boots, cowboy hats, and freshly starched western shirts. Who in Denver, CO. did not recognize that green Mercedes Benz? He also loved to take road trips and took as many as possible. Johnny loved going to his class and school reunions. He never missed one and stayed in constant contact with all his old classmates. In his free time, he loved to play cards with friends and going to the movies. He would always go to the movie theater to catch the latest comedy, western or action movie. Johnny was a proud man that did everything "His Way" and will be sorely missed by many.
