John Edd Smith was born on February 2, 1939 to Rev. Harrison H. S. Smith and Madye Lee Love Smith in Minden, LA. John grew up in Ringgold, LA. During his lifetime John worked as a counselor for the Boys Industrial School, an insurance Agent, a business owner, and a government contractor until his retirement . The son of a minister father and educator mother, John was taught the importance of faith and the power of education which he passed on to his children. John was a fun loving, charismatic man who charmed most people he met. He was a of strong family values who always encouraged his children to stay connected. John was always willing to lend an ear or a helping hand to anyone who was in need. He was a trusted advisor to many on many things, never passing judgment. John enjoyed politics, talking, singing and watching old westerns. He will be missed by all who were fortunate to have known him. John was preceded in death by his parents, Rev H.S. Smith and Madye Lee Love Smith, sister, Sarah Elizabeth Green, and brother, Julius C. Smith. John leaves to cherish his memories, his eight children Demetria Haughton of Aurora, Keetchia Totonia "Toni" Yvette Rambo Theus of Ringgold, LA, Gary Smith of Aurora, Sarah "Sissy" Smith of Aurora, Devri Smith of Los Angeles CA, Johnedda Smith of Dallas, TX, Kyiesha Smith of Dallas, TX, And John-Darryl Ward of Topeka, KS; one brother, Harrison Y. Smith, and one sister, Madye Smith Young; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
